hail all

i am currently playing in a core rules guild but i am going to start a none core rules alt to level up. I am struggling to decide between a warrior and a berserker i have read many forum threads on the both classes but im no closer to deciding. I dont have much plat maybe about 1k so i wont be twinking much and will mainly be soloing through the game with no merc due to no expansion. Anyone know what best to solo out of the two and if the warrior dps is anywhere near that of zerker?

The only other factor is looking at the warrior class it appears i wouldnt really get many abilities toill much higher lvl whereas the zerker seems to get tombs much lower level, is this the case or am i missing something.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Without much twinking and no merc, I would say the zerker would be easier in the earlier levels simply by having the stun and snare discs.

As far as dps goes, a zerker isn't much more than a warrior in terms of dps until you get 60+ and start aa'ing. That's really when a zerker starts distancing himself from others in dps. Until then, you're just a weak warrior with a few snazzy discs.

so is the warrior ability list i have seen where u only get something new every 10 levels at lower level right or is there other abilities? cos i can imagine getting bored with nothing new for that long or is there other things to keep u interested

Until 50+ warriors don't get many discs. Even at lvl 75 I only use a handful of discs on my warrior. If you need discs to keep your attention, then by all means go with zerker.

i know this is off topic but ive been reading all the class forums for last two hours and i am half tempted by either a bst or a ranger also, anyone with any experience on these classes care to tell me some pros and cons please and where they would compare to the war and ber?

well they wouldn't really compare to the warrior because the warrior is a tank. for all purposes rangers do a decent amount of dps, have snare and decent attack buffs plus they have their own procs to add to their weapons. as for beastlords you get the stat buffs and some dps, also get a pet to take the heat off you when you need to slow is a plus as well.

it's really up to you they both have good and bads i mainly listed the goods for them.

Hm...

I leveled my ranger to 70, and my Warrior to 55, so far. All said and done, the ranger is probably the most fun to level of all the characters I've tried. My necro main was about as much fun. As Turlisk notes, the roles are very different. The Ranger's spells, discs, abilities (track, forage, archery) make for a fun time. If you want a tank, with solo-ability, and lots of interesting abilities, a Paladin isn't a bad choice. My pally dinged 69 last night, and he's been a hoot, too.

A caster like a necromancer will be less gear dependant than a tank or a ranger (bows, arrows, spells, armor, quiver, etc). A mage is another good choice that's a lot of fun.

I've puttered around with low level BST before, but they didn't seem that interesting to me. You don't get a pet until level 9.

All that said, if I were starting over and had only one toon to make, and money for gear was only a moderate concern, I'd start a ranger. If I had no money, I'd make a caster. I'd probably start a paladin if I wanted a tank but didn't plan to have a merc, but I'd want to make sure I could get armor with decent AC. The bonus to aa experience means that aa's can seriously and quickly improve your pally by the time you hit the mid-50's (and getting there should only take a few weeks with the way the hotzones yield xp now).

Don't worry about race. Get whatever appeals to you. My toons are mostly human, but the pally and shammy are frogs. The War is an ogre, but there are other good choices.

Hope some of that helps.

As far as things to do other than casting spells/using abilities the answer is no.

If you like getting new and useful abilities as you level and you want to play a melee oriented character, play a Ranger, Shadow Knight or Paladin perhaps.

If you are now looking at ranger or Beast I would say the ranger. I do play both classes and the ranger track snare and fear animal make a lot of difference.
I know why Not try all four and see!
Seriously if its down to warrior and zerker and your going to be soloing I wouldnt be playing either since both classes are gear dependent, and the warrior lack of snare will be a handicap. If you want the most challenge due to difficulty I would choose warrior.

Please don't roll a warrior unless you want a very difficult time in EQ. It takes a long time to level because of poor DPS, the gear is very weak until you get to the mid-70s and you'll have an extremely difficult time gearing up to be a "passable" tank...not even a GOOD tank. Unless you are going to put in the hours to make your warrior top-notch, roll something else. Current 80-85 content will crush you, laugh at you, and bestow apon your mother a little brother.
