I first played EQ at the release of Kunark. I was quite smitten, playing hardcore up until shortly after the release of Yakesha. My guild had disbanded and public raids were frustrating(playing w/ strangers less fun anyway) So EQ got dropped, I was starting to have trouble keeping up high end wise anyhow.
Before purchasing my first monthly session, I had expected the game to have changed significantly. I laugh at WoW players complaining about their interfaces. "I used to play EQ!" And I was right, the game has improved so much since Kunark! I'm happy the game I loved has evolved into the vast, powerhouse it is! But it's bittersweet.
Classic EQ is dead.
I expected EC to be desolate; the bazaar was revolutionary. But my other early game spots have befallen the same fate. The Freeports: abandoned. GFay: silent. Omen: dead. OT: rooster-infested. I wont go on, it's disheartening.
It's great the game is as far along as it is, but it's reached a point where levels pre-60 are pretty irrelevant. I think it's sad all the raids, group spots and gear I once knew is dust covered.
RP note:
Fellow iksars, never forget the scales and blood shed to liberate us. Now more than ever we must fight for our survival. Dragon-human mutts?!? Never forget Sebilis! Never forget the Feild of Bone! Dragon blood cannot be trusted. Our own become deformed into the vile Sarnak when touched with Dragon. We've survived the Shissar, and the soft skins, and Cazics wrath! Don't be lulled into defeat by the false promises of Knowledge. The war is coming.
