What should I be working on?Follow

#1 Feb 25 2009 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Real quick, a little info about me. I play on the Nameless server. I played for a couple of years and then quit for about 6 years and just recently reactivated my old account a couple of months ago. When I quit I was a lvl 53 Cleric (Riderr on the Nameless). I pretty much gave away everything I had when I quit so when I came back I was a Naked and broke lvl 53 cleric. In the time I've been back I have managed to outfit myself with elaborate armor, gotten to lvl 70, finished my 1.0 epic, and gained about 100 aa points.

Needless to say there have been many changes in the 6 years I was gone. I'm pretty much lost now. In the couple of months I've been back I feel like I've accomplished alot but I seem to be at a dead end now. I don't know what progressions I should be working on or how to accomplish them. For instance, I started the Dragons of Norrath stuff but I hit a dead end with that pretty quick. The next tasks/missions all require groups. Well, the Nameless used to be a very crowded server but now I go from zone to zone to zone and I'm the only one there. I think I need these missions so I can start catching up on things like spells. It seems the only way for me to get many of my new spells I have to have all these different types of currency, I can't simply get them with plat anymore.

OK, I'm getting too long winded now so I'm just going to throw a few questions out there.

1. What progressions should I be working on? Is there a secret to getting around the group issue?

2. How do I get these different currencies for the different areas I need for my new spells? (I think this question is related to the first one)

3. What do the different levels of spells mean? For instance, at level 75 I get such and such, or such and such rk II, or such and such rk III. Do I have to get such and such before I can get such and such rk II or III?

I'll stop there for now. Thanks in advance for your help.

YOu need faction to buy spells in The Burning sea expansion. You can get faction by solo quests in katta.ZThe faction tasks will also give the special currency for buying. However I know of a few clerics who didnt bother, they just leveled to 72 73 and bought the spells they needed in the serpents spine zones. My 73 cleric has the orux and doubloons for a few spells but doesnt have faction. Nothing I really want there anymore.
You can always buy the Don crystals in bazaar you dont need faction to buy from Don merchants as you do in katta.

To get around group issue you can get a mercenary. ??? or join guild, or switch servers, but all servers have population issues.

what to work on? Epic 1.5 and 2.o but you will need help. Whatever else you want.
Thats my problem now, Im not sure what I want to work towards with my 2 most played characters, Courtin the cleric and Jonwinnie the shaman.

May go back to the range and finish his epic. May drop an account, maybe just keep plugging away and having fun in groups and chatting.
Since I dont have real friends maybe Ill do some more tradeskills.

Start with the Void access stuff, and dont look back.

Do the Oceangreen Hills/Village Voidb access quests.
1. lots of RK2 spells drop
2. Faction allows you to buy spells from herald
3. Quests equal chronobines, and awesome aug
4. Everquest tends to make everything that came before it obsolete in terms of gear/spells... I mean really, have to looked at the DoN or Ldon merchants..Wow

But if you wanna level/AA grind...hit the hot zones.

Welcome back, Safe Hunts and rare drops!

EQ was designed to be a social game, and you need extensive knowledge and familiarity with the game, the world and the 'tricks of the trade' of the particular class you play to solo beyond a certain level, as you seem to have discovered. It's not that it can't be done, it's just much more difficult than grouping with a gang of friends who know you and your particular strengths and weaknesses.

Check the boards in the guild lobby regularly, visit different guild forums, talk to people you group with and find a guild with a number of people at ~the same level of progression as you (most likely a huge family guild where people have fun levelling up alts).

Then check Samanna's site and Rasper's repository to figure out what to do where.

And welcome back to Norrath ;-)

Hey Riderr, it's Pinzarn from the Nameless. Glad to see you've grabbed some levels since I last saw you.

Tackling the questions out of order:

Spell ranks were introduced in TSS. Rk III is slightly more powerful than Rk. II which is slightly more powerful and Rk. I. For the most part, Rk. I is purchased from vendors, Rk. II is from group drops (for that expansion), and Rk. III is acquired through raiding. For example, Hand of Tenacity (level 75 cleric spell):

Rk. I = +2144 HP, +113 AC
Rk. II = +2234 HP, +118 AC

While Rk.II is better, Rk. I still lets you buff your group effectively. If you buy Rk. I from the vendor and later get Rk. II, when you scribe it in your spell book Rk. II will take the place of Rk. I. Rk. I will be gone forever. I highly recommend checking the bazaar first for Rk. II version of the spell. Some of the player sold Rk. II spells will be cheaper than the vendor sold Rk. I spells. I have a few cleric spells that I'll pass your way the next time I see you online.

In TSS (spells 71-75), certain spells drop from certain mobs. I think this was Sony's way to get people hunting in different zones. In SoF (spells 76-80), the spells seem to drop in tiers instead of just particular mobs.

Personally, I tell people returning to the game that the best bang for the buck/play time is going to SoF or SoD zones. That is where you can find everyone. Trying to go back to DoN is tough these days due to teh lack of people wanting to do them. Other than that try the hotzones.

Thinking about how to acquire some of the spells:

DoN: Some of the spells are rewards for progression. Some spells are purchased using Ebon/Radiant Crystals.

DoDh: The spells are rewards for completing the mission arcs. Complete 3-5 missions that have a theme and you get your spell.

PoR: I think there were only auras here, but similar to DoDh, you need to complete a mission or two.

TSS: See the rank spells above.

TBS: The spells are purchased using Orum and Dubloons. Rk. I is from the pirate camps using Dubloons. Rk. II is from the Katta(?) camps using Orum. You need to get faction and the currency by doing the missions from the camps.

SoF: Mob drops and some can be purchased using the currency (Faycatium?) and faction from the missions.

Personally, starting at level 71 most or all of your spells should be available from a vendor. It is possible to just level to 71+ and skip all of the lower spells. There might be one or two lower level unique spells that might be worth getting.

I'll keep an eye out for you. If there are some stuff that you want to try, we'll give it a shot, if you don't mind me boxing my toons.

Thanks for the replies. I gather my best route atm is to grind to 75 (shouldnt be much of a grind from 70) and work on my 71-75 spells. I think that should pretty much get me caught up in the spells department atleast.

With that said, what are the spells that a cleric MUST have these days? For instance, I know that every cleric worth thier weight has Temperance (I have that one) but what are the other MUST haves or SHOULD haves?

One more thing, please be kind to me. I'm not up to speed with all the abreviations. While all the replies have been very helpfull it takes me a while just to figure out the abreviations in your replies. Example: Seeds of Destruction (SoD), The Serpents Spine (TSS). Am I correct?

And thank you too Pinzarn, I'll be looking for you as well. I think I already have you on my friends list but if I don't I'll be sure to add you.

Best bet is to go to the spells section of the site and decide for yourself.
Hp buffs in the aegolism line are Temperance, Aego, Virtue, Conviction, Tenacity, Temerity and Gallantry.

YOu do want to get the 72 spell that is a 1k damage proc and also is a hot that heals you for 1k during 30 seconds, add in the ward pb aoe proc spell and Courtin takes out 3 LB in cod at a time. Could do even more if I had better aa's.
