Wow Burblecut, so many questions - I'll try to help out as best I can. One of my favorite characters is a gnome.
Okay, I'll tackle these one at a time;

"I read in another post about someone shrouding there pet, what does this mean.is it possible to camp your pet and when you come back on the next day he will be there with you?"
When you shroud, you hear the "pet death" sound, and your pet will disappear as you take your shrouded form. To shroud, hail one of the NPC's in the Plane of Knowledge that says "spirit shouds" underneath their name. Use can use the "find" command if you're having trouble locating him. When you log back in later, target the shroudkeeper, say remove, and you will be back to nornal - along with your pet...including his "temporary" pet items!

I hear higher lvl mages spending 500-700 pp to out fit the pet. which I don't know why they do,because mages summon stuff don't they?
I agree that higher level mages would not need to purchase items for their pets, but lower level mages would certainly want access to higher-level pet toys, as would other pet-using classes. If I totally load up a pet with pet toys, I figure that a level 20-ish pet could easily have around 5,000 hit points. This will cost me around 200 plat to get to this point. You would use shrouding to preserve those pet toys. For some reason, shrouding causes pet toys (temporary items) to remain.
One thing though - characters don't seem to update properly for purposes of veteran rewards when using this method. So if a veteran reward "birthday" occurs for your character, you will need to unshroud, log all the way out, then back in again to correct it.

also I want to learn how to do tinkering,I went to steam front mountains and spoke to Bom knotwood I think that was name ,but he didn't tell me what to do. I read you need a tool box so I bought one from him. all it says in the toolbox is combine at bottom of box I want to understand tradeskills but I really don't. I need to learn research so I can make my pet spells now. what is that all about...some one please help.
Sounds like you already have the container, now you only need three more things - the recipes, the skills, and the components.
The RECIPE is the first thing you want, because it will give you an idea of how hard it will be to get the components, as well as what skills are needed. The best way to get the recipe is on this site - you can use the search feature to find the item you want to make, and take note of what components are required. Sometimes, you have to accept that certain components will be out of reach, because they are either no-drop, or are too expensive. If money is not an option, you ca often find droppable components in the bazaar. When you get into your 50's, you can begin to visit the plane of Innovation for components.
The SKILL required is something that you will have to improve with practice. This is where things can get expensive. Fortunately, you can often mess around with "sub-combines" to raise your skill. Take careful note of the skill required to make a given item BEFORE you try to make it; if you get too ambitious, you'll get a lot of failures; which wastes your money as fail results often cause the components to disappear.
The COMPONENTS might be trivial to acquire, or they might be near impossible. In general, most components for an item being store-bought, with one component being drop only. In some cases, the droppable part must also be worked or tinkered in some way as well (sub-combines are common and can be rather complex). Finally, don't be surprised if some sub-combines require tradeskills OTHER than tinkering, such as making a skinning knife for example (requires blacksmithing at 22, I believe).

I just turned 22 , and I am not sure I am using the right pet, I use the earth pet only . that's what everyone tells me to do,is this right
Never having played a magician myself, I advise you to choose the best all-around pet - most likely you will end up with a water pet. However, if you can afford high level pet toys, then I say go with a fire pet for the higher damage output. Another thing - try to find a mercenary to help you if you're struggling - perhaps a healer merc to heal you and your pet, maybe?

I don't really know where to go at all in this game, I own every expansion and I have not even touched the surface of the game.I want to see other area's,but don't want to get lost
Learning your way around is something that comes with experience. As far as I know, EQ is the largest MMORG in terms of sheer size. Not surprising - it has 15 expansions. As far as your immediate stomping grounds, learn all about the Plane of Knowledge, the Guild Lobby, the Bazaar, and your Guild Hall. These zones are the hub of modern EQ life, and it's where you'll find the vast bulk of players on the server at any given time (the starting cities are pretty much deserted these days, alas, save for Crescent Reach).
To start with, you will want to make sure you are in an area that gives you great experience. Start with hot zones - you get double experience in a current hotzone. Also, focus on cash - you're going to need lots to buy that defiant gear for yourself. Talk to the hotzone NPC in the Plane of Knowledge to see the names of the zones for your level. Most players will be willing to lead you to a zone in question if you aren't sure. You might also wish to find a zone connection chart, print it out, and have it nearby when you play.
As far as money, you can kill Gunthak pirate skeletons in Timorous deep for good money - about 4 plat per kill on average. They're on the main island the transporter sends you to - nestled back in the rocks. They are all about level 25. when you get to you mid to upper 30's, you want to switch to Hill Giants in Rathe Mountains for loot.
Well anyway, hope this info helped you out.
