Hello. I am glad to have found these forums. The more I read about EQ the more I am fascinated. I am coming from a background of Dungeons and Dragons Online and War-Hammer Online and have never found a true MMO fit for myself...until now I hope!

Q: I am hyped on EQ's double leveling style. (the standard level, and the AA's system) Am I able to choose to have 100% of exp go to AA's and none to actual level? Could I theoretically get 2000 AA's while I was still level 1, even though I couldn't spend them yet?

Q: I will be joining and getting ALL expansions simultaneously, will I have any idea (short of reading forums for a month) what the hell I am supposed to be doing once I get out of tutorial? Will I end up wasting time if I explore/progress naturally, without a specific plan of attack gleaned off an EQ data base/forum? Will the drops in most old content be so out dated/obsolete only a fool would linger to farm it?

I could imagine a group passing me on the way to somewhere else saying amongst themselves... "Damn, look at that lost soul. Should I tell him the only gear coming out of that area is so dreadfully out dated the NPC's will barely vendor it?" Meanwhile I am skipping along exclaiming in perfect child-like honesty: "Yay! I found some super boots!"
Another member of the mentioned party says to the first: "No... don't tell him, he looks like he's having fun, best not to spoil it for him.... he shall come to know."

Thank you!

No. First of all, you must be level 51 to begin earning AA experience. Second of all, you can only bank a maximum of 30 AA and though there was a way around that cap, that loophole was closed about a month ago.

I'll be honest with you, probably not. While the game does give you SOME indication of what you should be doing, it's not nearly as in-depth as the games you're familiar with. You won't be wasting time if you explore and progress naturally. Quite the contrary, you'll be learning more about the game and its background. Sadly, drops in old content (with the exception of defiant armor and a smattering of others) will be grossly outdated and obsolete. My advice to you is to do the tutorial and then take the trip to Crescent Reach and do all the quests there. That path will take you to 75+, should you choose to follow it to its end. Of course, you're going to want to branch out and see other places (which is good) and hit the various hotzones. Those places you'll learn about as you go (you get a popup window the moment you ding the first level of a hotzone's range).

Pretty much nothing you loot off a level appropriate mob is really going to be worth 'YAY!'ing about until you get into the 70s range. Of course, there are exceptions and many items from old content remain extremely valuable due to their function (Anklesmasher & Silken Whip of Ensnaring come to mind) and any augs that drop will probably be valuable to those actively hunting for them. But those are exceptions, not the rule.

If you roll on Fennin Ro, send a tell to anyone in Rendition (/who all Rendition) and I can help ya out some. Smiley: smile

If it's your first time playing, I'd do the noob armor quests in PoK after getting out of the tutorial.

I might be wrong about those still being useful as I just came back after the better part of a year. But that's what I used to do when I'd start an alt.

pok newbiw armor doesnt match up to the defiant, at least in my opinion.
Also if he starts in tutorial he will most likely end up in cresent reach.

I would second the notion to go to Cresent Reach (or CR) and do the tasks there to level and learn of the game. If you start on povar Lucky Insane is a friendly guild, not much for raids at all but lots of help.
