I love the idea of a Kyv Archer merc - he uses range attacks but his melee is sub-par? Actually, several mobs from that expansion would make excellent mercs. Dragorns would be right up there, even ukuns would make good warrior mercs.
I'm envisioning a kind of "drop-down" list you could scroll through (after you hail the merc liason) to get an idea of which mobs are available, and which mobs belong to which classes.
I'm also a firm believer in certain mobs being "tied" to certain classes or class-like abilities (like the Kyv, above).
I also feel that better quality monster mercs are something you should have to earn - sort of the way you have to work to qualify for better shrouds; so should it be for monster mercs.
Another possibility are monster mercs that shine in a particular type of environment (the kind they come from), but are weaker in other places.
The thing is though, I doubt SOE will ever implement it. On the other hand, mercs are pretty popular, so I can see some kind of expansion in the area of mercs in the next year or so. The most interesting thing about these kind of threads is you get to see what kind of mobs are most popular amongst other players.
Here's to hoping SOE puts something like this into practice someday.
