Coming back for at least a monthFollow

SO I can't leave it unfinished. I need to get my warrior up to whatever the highest level is these days and I need to be part of at least one successful raid before I can say, "Alright, I've done everything I wanted to with this game, I'm going to retire and spend my money on EVE instead.".

So on Friday I will be paying for a month and returning. Anything new since the spring/early summer that I should know about?

Someone tell me that this isn't an example of who's still playing EQ...

For the record, the first post wasn't supposed to imply that I'm just coming back to finish something I started.

I'm bumping this because I don't want to read some guide. I'd rather get my information directly from the community.

What expansion did you leave during? Biggest changes from the last expansion were a raise to the level cap and the addition of mercenaries.

I left just before the last one came out. Back when Akheva Ruins, Dulak's, and BoT were still hotzones. What's the level cap now? It was 80 when I left.

You are serious? I thought you were making a joke on the endless stream of 'I'm back, now hold my hand'-posts.

But you expect someone to write you a Bluffer's Guide? Start by reading the forum, mate, and maybe then you can ask some specific questions rather than "I can't be ***** to dig out what's important to me, someone spoon-feed me!"

There are people who spend hours and hours posting and refining information for people like you, all you have to do is read it.

I presonally liek to answer what questions I can when anyone asks them, even if they could go to a guide. Anyone can read a guide and say, "Ok, I'll do this, the guide says it works" or, "Ok, so that's what's new, thanks guide", but I like to ask the people playing because they might have seen or noticed things that are not in the guide.

You seem like the same kind of player who caused me to nearly quit when I first picked up the game a few years ago, can't be ***** to just give a tip to anyone because they could just go read a guide. I prefer to trust the EQ community to help me out when I have a question or a problem, and I've never had a problem with it before.

Are we finally hitting that stage where, despite the low population, we're actually shunning newcomers and returning players? Wow.

Level cap is now 85.

I'd recommend a forum search for "mercs" or "mercenaries" in the thread titles because I'll just forget stuff. But the really short version is that they are "pets" which cost money over time, use a group slot instead of a pet slot and function as either a warrior/tank or cleric/healer including buffing and rezzing for the cleric. Depending on your viewpoint, they're either the best thing since sliced bread or the worse thing since... um... poorly sliced bread.

Well, I don't think I'll make much use of the mercs because that would give me a reason not to look as hard as I do for groups. I might use them a bit with my lower level Shammy or if I start a new toon, but I'm not going to waste the money on it with my Warrior.

85 you say? Sweet. I wonder if they'll ever just make it 100...

Ok I think people got a little defensive all because of the way you asked... This game is so expansive that your comment seemed to underestimate the vast size of the entire experience and trivalize it to (1 raid and leveling). this attitude seemed more suitable for a WOW player midset. However the best place for information is the New player or Returning player threads because people have taken the time to actually make those viable with alot of information including the Hotzones and information on what has changed.. its much easier to give you that info than to repeat what has been said in countless forums (whole reason those were made)..

And good luck finding a group.. make sure you choose a good server becuase server population is highly dependent on the server you choose.

You're original post (and actually many of your replies), implies you don't really want to play. And a vague question, will get all kinds of replies. Your original question is similar to someone asking, how do I succeed in real life?

Or more aptly, I've been asleep for a few years, can someone tell me all the changes that have happened. Asking specific, or at least specific to one area, even if general to that area, will get alot better results.

The first thing to do, is read information directly from the game, i.e. Patch notes, which can be found here at Alla's under the New link in the links on the left, at the top, or get them directly from Sony at forums or EQPlayers, as well as many other places.

Once you're back in-game, there are NPCs in PoK you can talk to get information about new changes as well.

And most of posters here are more than happy to answer questions, but please try to narrow the topic range down. Your original question would require a guide in and of itself to answer, and is why you were directed to them. Also read the sticked New / Returning Players thread.

**** EDIT ****
And if you read any of the threads here, you'll find that people are generally polite and try to answer questions. You can always just play the game and discover what's new as well.

I spend (way too much of) my time answering specific question and giving what I hope is helpful advice for free to people who show me they have tried and failed to figure things out for themselves first. In effect, writing the guides that you can't be ***** to read. What's your contribution?
