We have done several different methods of downloading the maps for Map Fiend into the game (am back after a long time, downloaded all the expansions from Seed expansion)

Am getting 0 bytes in a lot of maps. Some I remember from before were up and showing. Am not the only one, several posts at Fiend. I dont understand why Blightfire Moors doesnt show, old ones like Eastern Wastes dont show, all are 0 from Map Fiend.

We did down load the combined map with all the layers.

I need someone to either post a solution, another site to go to or private message me with the set that will work.

I can't even go to the new areas, heck if I didn't have such a good memory I couldn't go some of the old areas as it stands now. :(

Thanks

Select All Maps and hit the Download button.

You need scripting (Javascript / VB Script) turned on in your browser. I used Firefox, and haven't used IE for anything for years, unless absolutely had to use that browser.

Other sets and single maps are often missing. I've never had a problem getting this pack tho. I just double checked it, and it has Eastern wastes (eastwastes_1.txt) and Blightfire Moores (moores_1.txt).

When extracting, make sure you sleect to Overwrite existing files.

Also, *_2.txt and *_3.txt files are often empty, even in the All Maps pack. *_2.txt files are suppose to contain labels but on several zones, those are just in the *_1.txt file. *_3.txt is supposed to contain grid lines, but almost every zone map, is empty for teh *_3.txt files.

Hope this helps.

Who puts in those grid lines, and for what purpose? All they do is make the maps unreadable to me - grrr. Good thing they aren't hard to remove, but there must be some prupose, I guess?

Only thing I can think of, is for those that don't know how to use /loc navigation, and have an NPCs location.

There's alot of things about many maps I don't like. Tons of NPC / mob names that are very long. Light colored lines (especially in light colored zones), Scarlet Desert being a prime example). Lack of elevations, where you can't effectively use Height Filter: The Hole, Droga, BoT, all prime examples. Repetitive labels (PoK is a prime example). Lack of topography in any map, I've ever seen (Great divide would be a good zone to have this, as well as many others).

Lots more, I could mention, but those seem to be the big ones.

If I don't lose my patience, focus, and determination, I'm going to try and make a full set, that fixes all these problems, as well as addresses some others, such as splitting vertical maps, into sections (similar ot EQMaps, but using layers). And using graphic icons, instead of labels for imiportant things, like teleport pads, bankers, GMs, and general supply merchants (Food, Water, etc.), and for Tradeskill fixtures (forge, loom, oven, kiln, pottery wheel, etc.).

Well, side-tracked again .. maybe saying it out loud (i.e. posting it) will keep me more motivated :D Let's hope so. BTW: I ahve already redone, BoT less, Ag'narr's main room (didn't want to have to do the pre-cycle at the time), and less icons for the portals yet, as well as Kaesora. Did most of Overthere as well, but it has a default map, I hadn't noticed until I was already pretty far along on it ... Default kinda light lines tho, especially for the path and ruins, and even tho, it has alot of ruins, it's missing alot too :-/

Who knew Ythers last name was Phelps?
<Cue Music>
Good evening Mr. Phelps, the Secretary would like you to take your crack team of cartographers and start mapping.
In the event of printer failure the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your attempt.
This player will self destruct in 20 crashes.

On a side note I am always using self mapping and making my own labels. Dont forget to save the changes.

I made maps when I played before, it just seems it should be an integral part of the game, all maps up and showing. Not quiting the game for sure, just a pain and trying all the additional suggestions sometime this week.

Jonwin, your comic posts crack me up :)

I just remembered, in reference to grid lines, I sometimes put a box in that is bigger than the zone, due to zooming out to full map without such a box, often clips parts of the map.

Excuse me, I won't make any more comic posts. I can't afford to have you cracking up from other than eq related stress.

<Blush> My public loves me.You should have seen the wright-up I got for my talk on Saturday past. Did I mention the lovely letter Ed Bearss, National Parks Chief Historian emeritus sent after a tour I gave?

Yther I so agree with you on all points.

Wish I had a better understanding on how to create a good map and I'd help you out
