Crashing Issues...Follow

#1 Feb 04 2009 at 3:20 PM Rating: Decent
Hey guys I just bought everquest again to return back to the game i used to love so much. But now I am having some issues. I have never run EQ on this laptop before but I used to run it on a newer yet slower computer. It seems that even when i turn all my settings to low quality and un-check all the boxes and pick the correct resolution that when i log in, i automatically freeze up between loading screens to enter my server or world. And if it has any relevance, if I use EQW (everquest in windowed mode) it seems as if i can actually log in for a little bit then it freezes again! this problem is very aggravating and any help will be greatly appreciated!

I am running an hp pavilion laptop zx5000

Just simple tech trouble shooting

#1 make sure firewall is not blocking or Virus Protection. Grant game access to them both. There should be a tab on both programs.

#2 do you have DirectX 9.0c: I believe there is a link on Sony’s site or can get it from Microsoft or browse the internet.

#3 update graphic & video drivers

#4 Internet connections. Is there a way to hardwire computer to net? Maybe there is an interruption.

But looking at the stats you have, you should be okay. You should be able to run all graphics. I have same graphic card and running on a Pent 3 (to cheap, lol) have lag
9800 card would be better.

Good Luck

Did you do a fresh install or copy from your desktop box ?

If you copied it across make sure you have not copied the EQclient and UI files across. EQclient especially holds video information which could be messing things up for your laptop.

I know, I did that with mine without thinking.

What programs do you have running in the background? EQ is very RAM intensive (if you let it) and 512 Mb + XP => disaster for most things beyond Minesweeper in my experience.

I'm with Whitman on this. Sounds like not enough ram. May help to turn some settings down in the game also like no flora and set everything else to low. Make sure you set the graphics in options at the log in screen and turn everything on that saves memory and off if it says it uses more memory.

1. It is starving on memory, upgrade to 1 gig.
2. Turn off system restore.
3. Turn off allow index service on hard drive
4. Upgrade to service pack 3 if you already have not. It is about 10 % faster than service pack 2.
Run services.msc There are a lot of junk services running in there. Be sure to research before you disable. I crashed my EQ client when I turned off windows time service, so it might depend on it. Don't kill the wireless one hehe. If you disable the printer spooler one, your printer driver goes away.

Disable COM and LPT1 ports under windows xp if your not using them. Turn off your antivirus program before playing EQ. Some programs leave big resident programs still in memory even after you turn it off. Webroot antivirus with antispyware is great, but man it slows you down. I went with avast home 4.8 free. Hmm I set windows updates to manual, and upgrade when my work computer updates. Keep vertex shaders on. It helps. Turn off all pixel shaders on that video card. Turn off sound, and spell effects. Classic models FTW!

Oh and defrag once a week. EQ loves to throw files around.
