Question on Maps and OOT!Follow

#1 Jan 27 2009 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
I'm currently stuck in the Ocean of Tears and I keep falling off the boat because of lags, so I have to keep swimming around until I find an island...so

#1: Is there any way I can swim out of the zone?-- I've tried already but I seem to hit a border when I do. Or take a canoe out, maybe?

Other than that, my second question is:

#2: How do I open the map folder in the game files of EQ? I've downloaded some maps and extracted them but I dont know how to open the game files to EQ. (One of which includes the map of OOT)

~Thanks

No, you can't swim out of an ocean zone such as OoT or TD. Do they not have translocator gnomes in OoT any longer?

They went back with the ship.

Nope-- they do have translocators for Timorus deep, apparently the ships were brought back for OOT, but my problem is that they're too fast, and even a single lag would send me straight into the ocean...I thought you could actually swim out, or at least you could at one point. I wish they could bring the translocators back for OOT since I can't get out myself cause Im a rogue.

Not OoT ever that I know of, and I first tried in Aug of 2000. You're (OP) probably thinking of TD with the Teleport fire pots you can swim to at the bottom of the ocean.

I've tried levi as well, but I believe you have to be higher, if it would even work.

Try looking down as soon as you get on the boat. Or just switch toons for 6hrs and wait for the return home button to pop.

No, I meant the translocate gnomes they had set up when they removed the broken boats. For instance, they still have one between North Ro and Iceclad Ocean since they removed the boat.

Apparently they removed the OoT one and restored the boat. Having not set foot in OoT in years, I didn't know this.

Okay, I'll try that...but first, what do you exactly mean by "Or just switch toons for 6hrs and wait for the return home button to pop."?

If you're character is logged out for 6 hours or more, when you log back into EQ, at the character select screen (i think) you can choose to "Return Home" and it will load your character to his/her home city.

Jophiel, was referring to OPers thought you could swim out of an ocean zone. And yea, they removed the TLers in BB to OoT, OoT, and EFP, Sadly :(

Yes, as jrmayii said, 6hrs logged out and you can hit Return Home button on character select screen. However, you don't have to be completely logged out of EQ, just not logged in on that particular toon for that long.

This is what I did when my acount crashed going into OCean of tears.
I logged on the second acount druid and took the boat. Then joined group and ported. For the OP keep swimming to you get to sisters Island, to be picked up by a boat in the middle of the ocean have your toon swim in front of it. As it runs you over it should pick you up. (At least it used to.)
But I have often found myself in a bad spot, crashed out or just a hard to reach location. Camp out and 6 hours or more later I'm showing up in North Qeynos with tribute items and a warrent for the arrest of Lt. Arathur. Good thing its wanted dead or alive as he never will come quietly.

Can't swim out of OOT or TD.
Had to refresh my memory, which ocean is which... OOT is the monk epic zone and TD is the cleric epic zone, epics being the only reason we visit these zones on the higher level toons.
It's been a few months but last time there were gnome Translocators at the dock near Kaladim who offered a choice of either TD or OOT.
Not sure what's there now, but if there's no gnomes at the end of the docks, bring a lifejacket.

If you think those boats are laggy, book a cruise from Barren Coast to Buried Sea, I've had toons stuck in a vicious zoning loop because the lag was so bad that the boat started moving and zoned again before my screen cleared.
That seems to have been fixed by having the boats pause for a minute just before and right after zoning.

Somewhat related: ELEVATORS.
Man did I lose it and go totally ballistic in S.H.I.P. last night trying to use the elevator on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
Each time I'd get about 2/3's of the way up then fall through the elevator floor, ended up shortening the clipping plane to minimum and looking at the floor but that zone is just horrible for lag to begin with.

Oh, thanks everyone for answering, its just I'm a returning player after like 2-3 years, so I wasn't anticipating what the boats in the OOT would do. Of course I can relate to the elevators, especially the ones in CR, hate it when your almost near the top then fall right through. I'll probably just "Return Home" and use the nexus. This was incredably helpful.
