I recently returned to the world of Norrath after a very long 6 year break. I have a few questions, and a few thoughts to share.

question #1 Just what happened on Nov.16, 2005? I have been going through the guilds and random servers and that's a repeating date for last played. Was that when the server mergers began?

question #2 Does anyone else feel like Norrath is a ghost town? or Is it just me because I'm a low level? It's not limited to any one server either. I have created a character on many servers (not all yet,so if theres one with enough low lvls to group let me know) where there has been no other toon around. I am lucky enough to have my husband to play with,so not all is lost. At times it is nice to be the only 2 in a zone. You dont have to worry about KS,or stand inline to camp a mob. No trains but your own, so you dont have to worry about getting anyone killed. It's a soloers paradise. But at the same time it's depressing. Everything I missed about EQ is gone (besides the fishing). In the 2 weeks I have been back I think I have seen 2 OOC's not a single shout. No one begging for a port or a sow. No one bribbing for crack. No one looking for rez. It's a huge shock!!

On to a thought. I feel some what decieved by the free trial. Things spawn regularly, items drop frequently, plat not to difficult to come by, people in the zone. people chatting in ooc the helps the thanks yous. All is cool. So I take the plunge, sit through an 8 hour download, because everquest is nowhere to be found retail.(NOT COOL SOE!!)Sooo back home in Gfay. The zones seem like they are in some sort of sleep mode. It seems like we had to go around and kill everything to wake up the zone. We have noticed an increase in the wild life around Gfay. I guess we have a new mission to wake up Norrath. well Thats my 2 cents worth. I would love to get others opinions if any one still reads these. AND MY GOD SOE UPDATE THE WOOD ELVES IN KELETHIN!!!!

I believe that was when the EQPlayers service went live and started keeping track of when people logged in, etc. So every single account was "last active" in Nov '05 because the last time EQPlayers "saw" them was when it read every single account.

In reality, most of those characters haven't logged in since 1999-Oct 2005. I have long abandoned alts on other servers who show up as last played in Nov 05 when, in reality, they haven't been touched in nearly a decade. Note that I said "characters" -- I have an active account and if you checked my main characters you'd see I was logged in two days ago. If you looked up my character on Zek (once upon a time Rallos Zek) it'd say I haven't been on since Nov 2005.

It is not you.

Considerably less people play Everquest now than 6 years ago. Considerably.

True but think some are coming back but doubt ever will be as big as it was and I noticed on Povar is that the 'hang out' place has changed to the Guild Lobby by the Statue. When I played years ago, the hang out place was main bank in POK. Quite a few there every time I go by to the Magus.

I was concerned but not now when I came back at the lack of people running around in POK the first few nights but am okay now. Just different from what I remember.

Also, the first night my trader was up, not many other traders and then boom, both rooms on my sides and mine filled up and I consider that another sign.

A lot of us went to Wow, others went to EQ2. Players will filter back but as mentioned by many people it is casual. Wow has become casual, the Lich King is a nice expansion but from what I hear from others, it is not holding the player in the game as much so that again is a casual game.

What I will be interested in seeing is what happens when Diablo 3 comes out. Lol, all the online games now in play will become ghost games hehe.

The old zones will be mostly empty these days because there's hardly any reason other than nostalgia to be there. Most people will be hanging out in the guild lobby (you'll see lots of buff and rez begging there) or in their guild's own private guild hall.

There are so many new zones to explore, and much better places to level up and get gear than in GFay or any of the old places. When I came back to the game 3 years ago, I didn't use the tutorial or go anywhere new for quite a while. Started a Shaman and got him to 14 just in the areas surrounding Halas. I even went to Unrest for a while, but then I started seeing the newer stuff, and while I loved that old content I think the new stuff is a lot of fun too.

A lot of people will come on to these forums and declare that EQ is dead because they went to "insert pre-kunark zone here" and nobody was there. Yes, it is true that less people play now than several years ago, but there are still a whole bunch of people playing. They're just not spending their time in old zones.

If you haven't decided on a server I would suggest Bristlebane. It's the server I play on, and from what I understand it's one of the more populated ones.

Good luck, and I hope you have a lot of fun!

Could be worse. A little bit ago I revisited Star Wars for the first time since it went live and saw 5 people the whole time for the month I was on. LOL.
