It is the returning noob again. I downloaded Seeds so I really don't have any information on Mercenaries. How do I get a Mercenary? Anywhere I can read on it, what it can do, how to get? Is there a level requirement. Not that I am ready to try out new areas yet, am still rediscovering the old ones and ones that were just included in the game when I left which I think now that leaving may have been a mistake but also am looking at the return to the game at this point as one of the most fun, refreshing things I have done game wise for a long time.

No level requirement, you can get a merc at lvl 1 and take it into the tutorial if you really want to.
You hire mercs in PoKnowledge. Just hit Find and you can select from the different races. Note that you can't get an "illegal" class/race combo merc so Ogres, Trolls and Barbarians (among others) won't offer Healer (cleric) mercs and High Elves & Erudites won't offer Tank (Warrior) mercs.

I haven't been back to my starting city, but each hometown is supposed to have a mercenary merchant as well.

Mercenaries do not get bonus for their race. A level 1 ogre merc tank will have all of the same skills/benefits as a level 1 gnome merc tank. With that said, some people don't like their orge/troll mercs since they are so big.

You must be a cleric. Because everyone knows the only people complaining about mercs are clerics.

I am a cleric and not complaining. That's because I am a better cleric than a merc is. Don"t count the last 4 deaths guys, really a minor problem in communication.

LOL, I am a cleric, and I have a healer merc. My cleric can do more DPS than the tank mercs (that I have unlocked) and more DPS than some DPS classes out there that I see in PU groups. Plus, in melee, I can still cast spells like promised renewal and heal over time at full strength. On named mobs, I can always sit back and add to the healing as well. Once the group gets full, I can go back to full time healing and pocket the healer merc.
Best of both worlds.
I have and use merc's as needed, but many times I have recieved tells about someone needing a group and I enjoy packing away a merc for a real person...not that I am any better a conversationalist with them...
On the merc choices, I played around with a few different races a grades of them, I settled on the journeyman short guys...they always seem to be in the way...and they pay me no attention when I ask them to move, so short works.
