Just joined Everquest with a friend after getting bored of world of warcraft and after leveling two characters to level 8 and leaving the tutorial area, I am curious as to why though i put them both for South Qeynos, they both get ported to Crescent Reach when i leave the cave...

i think its the default start zone for all races now once you leave the tutorial.
when you create your character, you can choose your starting city and you can deselect the tutorial so you begin in your home town at level 1.

SOE probably figures its best to have all characters go to crescent reach after the tutorial so they can find groups and other players in the same 3 zone radius, rather than all going to abandoned home cities, not really knowing what to do next, and wandering around lost. crescent reach NPCs all have flags under their names like "task master" and "weapons" and "quests", which the hometown NPCs don't have.

The tunnel takes you to Crescent Reach no matter what. If you speak to Arias and say "ready to go" or "ready to leave" he'll port you to Plane of Knowledge instead. As xlitin said, you have to deselect the tutorial to start in the old home towns.

On the character creation screen you can choose your starting city but it has been broken for YEARS. You have no choice but to start in Crescent Reach regardless of what you set on creation. I have been petitioning this for years since I make alts on a regular basis.

Strange, I've never experienced that. Over the past few years I've made a few characters and started them in old home cities by selecting the city, and deselecting the tutorial. Of course I usually go the Tutorial > Crescent Reach > Blightfire Moors route because it's an incredibly fast way to level.

Yes, all my alts start in their home city ( never CR ), you just have to de-select tutorial...

Also, like someone said, hail Arias in the tutorial and say "I am ready to leave" and you will be transported to the POK
