Basic AA and Shaman Research QuestionsFollow

I hesitate to ask basic stupid questions, but I have recently returned to the game after a couple of years off. I have a 66 Shaman and I box with a 60 SK. I have only tried to group once or twice since 2001 when I was level 8 or so (other than the boxed group of 4 I used for a few years). I am not a super star here. I just like to kill monsters.

AA Questions: I remember when AA first came out and there was a requirement for so many general points then arch type then class. Although I see a lot written about where to put the points (most of this is confusing), I cannot find a simple guide that explains how these work in terms of the three basic levels. At this point I have about 5 AA points and I only put 10% of my experience into AA.

Shaman Spell Research Questions: I have mostly focused on Healing classes and the general approach to spells is that we go to a vendor and buy them. Later, when the vendors aren't selling higher level spells, we go to the bazaar and buy them. The magic welders worried about Pens, Knowledge Books, Runes and Research which was fine with me. Now I gather (based on going to a guild trainer for the first time in 130 training points that research is a skill we have) that for the high end Shaman spells, we need to get them by researching, and so, because they are so expensive at the Bazaar I guess I need to learn how to do that. (Does my SK need to start learning to do research as well?) Casters realm used to have a good guide for the magic users, but that site doesn't provide good information like it used to.

Where can I go to get a walk through of these fairly basic aspects of the game?

Any guidance is appreciated.

There are no "so many points into General, Archetype, etc." requirements any more, just click on an AA and it tells you the minimum levle, if any to buy the next rank, and any pre-requisite AAs needed.

AA XP has also been changed, and getting AAs, even at 51, isn't nearly as tough as it used to be. Basically, AA XP is the same amount of AA for an even con at 51 as it is at any level, for an even con, while noting, any XP modifiers of the zone, mob, buffs, etc. you may have, and of course kill rate, is the key point to getting XP of any kind.

Try the stickied thread, about new / returning players for a partial overview of stuff. Also, class sites, such Samanna.net for guides on which AAs to buy. Personally, I go with HP and Mana Regen, Exteded Duration, DoT criticals, and spell casting subtly lines for my Shm, but you may need different ones, depending on how you play.

There really isnt' a good guide to Non-Int Caster Research yet, that I've found, as that tradeskill was just introduced with SoD. And since Int-Casters can still make all the Priest spells, that Priests can make, may not be worth working on it, unless just something you want to do. Try the Message Board on EQTraders.com, as I recall there's some threads there on Non-Int Caster Research.

Hope this helps some,

Yther Ore.
