Supposedly you could do it on pets that were /pet hold back in the day. Not sure if it still works or not.

Yep, I had a friend skilling up on my pet 2 weeks ago that was green to her. That was in Crescent Reach, so I'm sure the Arena works too.

Pets that can be put on hold are great for training. Arena is a bad zone tho, you want a duel-able zone, with a good corner to pin the pet into, otherwise, you'll be having to pay constant attention because of push and getting out of melee. You still have to adjust in corners from time to time, but can window out for a while without having to worry about it.

Also, use low dmg weapons, so you don't have to heal the pet alot.

Other good places to work on offensive skills, is the Erudite in Paineel, at the pool near the Warrens zone in. He's only good around the 40s and maybe low 50s, and only thing you have to worry about is the 7-800ish HP HT, but only every 72mins, if you don't kill him. I zone to Warrens when he runs at <20% and right back to Paineel, wait a few seconds for him to regen to full, and then start again.

Again, good to use low dmg weapons on him. Also by not killing him, you don't have to wait for respawn (20min), and he regens to full in a min or two.

Hope this helps.

Disagree!

I've done this with 16 characters over the last year and I use empty, neglected, city arenas. Qeynos is a favorite since Thurgadin still gets traffic (Dains). I also use Kaladim as a backup, unless the character is an evil race. Can use Neriak, if the characters are all evil races. I don't like the whole duel thing because I get better results (more skillups per hour) using the straight PvP method. And yeah, I've parsed it. My clerics have capped (or nearly so) defensive and offensive/weapon skills, as an example. Need to work on the squishies soon.

I use a mage or necro or enchanter (as long as the ench has their pet AAs, it's the same thing) pet and just have them and the character involved fight each other. Of course, the pet has to be blue to the character being skill-leveled (yellow/red works too but then you can't haste/equip the pet at all or they'll do too much damage). Shaman pets can work with low level (say, under 40) characters but start to tail off sharply after that. Mercs make it even easier to afk-skill since the merc will keep both the pet and skill-ee up as long as they're grouped together (I'm guessing. Don't know first hand). I've never done it afk (I usually do it while I'm working on the other computers) so I always have to keep an eye out for pet and PC health.

But that's just my point of view.

Did you even read why I said Arena was a bad zone .. it's all round, with no good corners, unless you /duel outside of it, in the tunnels, just as well to go to lonesome zone. Corners of zones work well, 'cause mobs and ppl don't come to them. Nevermind on that point, I misread yours. The point was any place with good corners, and The Arena off Lake Rathetear is terrible.

And if you were referring to the part about pets on hold, it's so you don't have heal yourself constantly .. Now if you need defensive skills, it would be better to have them beating on you. And using this technique, you don't have to be bored out of your mind, standing there .. you can do some research, catch up on your email, etc.

And, finally, you /duel a person as well, and just not have them attack back, in a corner, if PvP does get you more skill ups, but skill up rate, doesn't really mean much if it's only a slight difference, and you have to be paying attention, or you can not be paying attention for a slightly lower rate.

But you can do it how you like, I just didn't see any logic behind your disagreement.

I'm assuming the only arguement was with the Arena, and I have no problem with any spot, other than it have corners you can pin the pet to.

He's speaking of the city arenas such as in Freeport, Qeynos, Neriak & Kaladim. Not the Arena zone off of Rathetear.

Yea, I got that after re-reading it, just haven't fixed it yet. Too early, and still don't see the argument tho ... I was refering to the zone The Arena in all posts .. it's terrible zone for pinning anything, but of course was designed that way. I'm clueless on other city pvp areas, as I've not looked into them much, just ran thru them when I have to.

No Yther, the part I disagreed with was the 'duelable zone' part. I just got what you meant (i.e. not a full-on PvP zone) so apologize for seeming to take it out of context. The reason I started using city arenas was because there was a time (years ago) where they nerfed the ability to get skillups from duels. No idea when that changed but it's not the case now.
