A while ago, there was a tongue-in-cheek thread about the things we learned from Everquest, which included a list of things that we take as a given in Everquest, but which are logical absurdities in real life.
Such as the ability to wear eight backpacks at once and never have them show up on your person.
Or the ability to run everywhere and never become tired.
Well, this was something I learned in my experience as a soloing-exclusively Enchanter. Now, to improve our DPS while Charming, Enchanters often give weapons to creature they're using.
Now, one would think that certain prerequisites would be in order for a creature to equip weapons. Bipedal and humanoid comes to mind. Or perhaps not necessarily humanoid, but at least the presence of limbs not used for walking, so that these weapons can be wielded. A centaur, for example, is not bipedal, but quadrupedal, and humanoid only from the waist(?) up. (Now, that I think about it, where is a centaur's stomach/stomachs? A horse has four stomachs, located...but I digress). Anyhow, lacking such limbs, one would at least expect the presence of thumbs. Thumbs, of course, being an anatomical feature of those creatures who create and use these weapons, and a necessary feature to effectively use these weapons. But I guess that's not the case. There are creatures, for instance, which are indeed bipedal, humanoid and have thumbs, but will not equip weapons when charmed (some of which exist in the new expansion).
On the other hand, when I'm in Loping Plains doing the AA grind, I find that the alligators (which, of course, aren't bipedal, humanoid, have no limbs that aren't used for locomotion and have no thumbs) are quite happy to use the weapons I give them. And they do well with them, too!
So, I learned from EQ that alligators, despite not being bipedal, humanoid, having no limbs not used for walking and no thumbs, can wield weapons.
