Important Information Regarding Your EverQuest® Account

New Worlds of Adventure

On January 21, 2009, EQ will be consolidating "The Combine" server and "Druzzil Ro (Tarew Marr)" server into one server to be titled "Druzzil Ro (Tarew Marr, Combine)." The merge will begin at 3 a.m. PST and will last approximately five hours.

In addition, in conjunction with the upcoming EQ 10th Anniversary celebration, SOE is expecting to add a new EQ server in March 2009 and players will be able to vote on a new server type. To provide your input on the type of server you'd like, visit EQplayers.com in January.

We hope that these changes will provide players with an even more enjoyable EQ experience.

Character Names

Priority for character names will be based on the date the character was first created. Subsequent players with the same name will have an "x" appended to their name until a unique name can be determined. The same process will be applied to guild names. Players who wish to change their names can type "/changename" into their chat windows. Guilds that wish to change their names will need to use the "/petition" command.

Inactive Characters

Accounts with characters below level 10 that have been inactive for six months or more will be purged from the EQ system.

Accounts with More Than Eight Characters

Accounts with characters on the merging servers will have their character names alphabetized, and only the first eight listed will be accessible until characters are deleted to make room. Any characters past the first 8 are not deleted, they are simply inaccessible until one of the first 8 is deleted to make room.

Shared Banks

If a player's account has characters on both servers, the most recently updated bank will have priority unless it is empty. Players must empty out the shared bank they don't want to keep before the merge. If players wind up with the wrong shared bank (they didn't empty out the other one in time, etc.) they can use "/petition" to have the other shared bank copied over.

UI and Character Settings

All character UI and character settings will need to be reset.

Corpses

All corpses will be sent to Shadowrest.

EQ players

Player information will be updated to reflect new names/guilds/servers.

Artifacts

New servers will allow two of the same artifacts.

Server Transfers

Free server transfers from the surviving server (Druzzil Ro) will not be available in connection with this server merge.

Druzzil Ro eats yet another server! We over at Druzzil must have a consistantly dwindling population or we are just SO GOOD we need to bring people over to teach them how to play correctly. LOL.

Its about time, in my opinion... I can sit LFG for days. I've seen a fair number of guilds fold up too. DRo has needed more players for a long time.

For people who just read the title and then jumped into reply. This is not a whole scale merge. They are merging two servers. Combine, which is virtually barren these days with Druzzil Ro (SOEs note is a bit confusing since it says Druzzil Ro (Tarew Marr) because Tarew Marr was merged with Drinal a few years ago. However, SOE confirmed that it's Druzzil and Combine.

They have not mentioned anything about further merges.

My personal opinion is that they are doing this so they can reuse that hardware on the new server launching in March (classic perhaps??)

I personally do not understand the strategy behind introducing Mercs than merging servers. Too many people in zones is far worse than empty ones now that we have Mercs. Remeber Cazic and Rubicite? Remember Sol B King and Priest?

Just go to the Hot Zone Valdeholm at peak times to see what I mean.

Just my opinion of course.

They are not merging servers (not widespread which you seem to imply). They are merging the nearly dead Combine with the low population Druzzil. That's it.

They have not mentioned anything about further merges.

Population in game on all servers seems to be a problem. Check out thread Dwindling Population in this same form. SoE needs to do something or let it die. I would hate to spend the time an effort developing a character only to continue getting mad at SoE and then finding out I can no longer log on anymore. They need to sell game and let some company promote it again. I do not have a charactor on either server but I like the idea you can have a couple of lore items & no drop... I would be farming and stocking up.

I agree they need to do more promotion, but I don't see them ever selling the game. It's still a nice profit for them.

The name issue is the only real complaint I have against merging servers in the general sense, but it's a *huge* one. As hard as it may be to code, you would think that in all this time since the last major server merge they might have come up with something to allow people to keep their characters' names.

To name a character is to give him or her a life. People make weblogs, reserve domain names, and create fan fiction based on the names they bring a character to life with. I sincerely hope they find a way around this before the next large-scale merge. I'm enjoying the game a great deal again now, but having my characters' names hijacked would mess up the reputation I've built, complicate things for the friends I've made, mess up my characters' email account(s), and most of all, put a real damper my resurgent enjoyment in the game of EverQuest.
