I have a few questions:

1. Is it still insanely hard to level after 50 or no?

2. Is there less downtime? (im guessing so with the rest ssystem but don't know much about it.

The post-50 Hell Levels were smoothed out and decreased downtime, Hotzones & mudflation means that leveling is considerably easier than it once was. At least from 50-70.

Yes. As you mention, there's a Out of Combat regen which is greatly accelerated. There's also potions to increase your mana regen, hirable mercenaries who'll heal you, easily available +regen items, +regen tribute, etc. Regaining hp/mana is much easier than before.

You still lose xp when you die, but with the Guild Lobby being able to summon and mercs it's really not to bad.

You still lose xp when you die. However, you now respawn at your bind point with all of your gear intact. You only need to recover your corpse to ressurect for experience.

When you respawn now after dying, you have a temporary effect which caps your mana/endurance very low. It fades quickly but is just to keep you from "bind rushing" mobs.

Well we came back after a 5 year break, and are very happy we did. Much of the game will be very familiar, but the huge number of zones available to explore is terrific.

Our experience is that with relatively up to date systems you can play smoothly at the highest settings, and at that there is little to choose in newer zones when comparing EQ to Vanguard or Conan. True, we have to turn of spell sparklies on raids, but not because of lag.

Also this game now seems very stable, I play mostly on a laptop, and the only crashes I have had are related to local graphics issues. My wife's homebuilt system has not crashed since our return.... a far cry from the other games.

As far as levelling goes, it seems much smoother, and if hell levels still exist we have not noticed them. I have run a Mage up to 62 pretty quickly soloing with a cleric merc, and without a lot of important spells. With us duoing a Shammy and Rogue we have moved up smoothly from 65 to 72, without ever sitting on a grind camp for exp.

In short, yes I'd definitely say give it a whirl...
