Not since the last time, which has been 3 years ago? There have been several threads on their forums screaming for merges though.

Any idea why they wont, its the reason a lot of people quit playing

No, have never seen an official reason for why they won't. It may have to do with limited staff or they don't think the servers are in that bad of shape overall.

Druzzil Ro is gasping for air. As much as I'll hate having to share my favorite grind spots (Beza ftw), our guild is in desperate need of some new toons and that's hard to do without poaching from one of the several other high end guilds. I think a server merge is imminent.

Release Mercs then merge servers? I doubt it. That would be a cluster F of epic "waiting-on-lists for the Ghoul Lord" proportions.

That last server merge stressed everyone out. I was on one of those servers (Xev) that was eaten up by another (Druzzil Ro) and you would have thaught the bank was foreclosing on peoples house's. LOL.

At least our merger actually went well, but then DRO and Xev servers had similar worldviews. Just had to figure out what everyone called certain camps.

BUt yes, some servers need mergers badly, especially DRO.

The official reason that was given a few months ago is that at peak times, server populations are still all above 50%. If you merge, peak times go over 100% of capacity and it gets ugly.

How about not merging but advertising to get more new players in game.
you have to spend money to make money.

EQ is not dead and we MAY need a SELECT server merge. EQ just isn't competitive compared to monsters like WoW and Warhammer. Conan bit hugely into our player base as did LotR. We're dwindling, but stable. I see them announcing an end to content ("sorry guys, we're fresh out of ideas... any thoughts?") as they can only run this Muramite crap past us maybe 2-3 more expansions.

Am coming back and haven't a clue if Povar is still around and that is where my Pally and Ranger are along with my trader.

Wow has been doing extensive requesting for server merges (Yes, even after LK). War has done the same thing and thought with War it was because of Beta and they had so many servers and now calming down so needed to balance the servers and put some to rest.

With Wow, they say some are very overpopulated but again I think people are moving to other games and this leaves voids.

When come on to EQ I just want a PVE server if Povar is no longer and will make a new toon and play that the most and the two high ones once in a while.

And from what I can observe, more are coming back to EQ than leaving it for good.

Start in povar and look up the guild lucky insane. Li is a fun non raiding guild, you can almost always get a guild group doing something, as long as you dont expect a raid on current content.

If sony offered free moves to a new server or three... would lots jump?

If they did, that would probably allow them to safely merge the current slate down to half doing it the way they did before.

-----

WAR killed the server my friends and I all played on. They offered free transfers off to a limited set of destinations. Within the week you could find almost no one online there. 3 month old game and there's some bitter people about it (not me, I shrug oh well). I can only imagine the long-term EQ player reaction if half the servers got "thinned out" this way.

They could probably max out 4-5 servers and merge the skeletal remains of the rest into a 20 word long name.

So I suppose, be careful what you ask for.
