90% res vs 96 % resFollow

#1 Dec 01 2008 at 11:07 AM Rating: Good
The powers that be are looking at reducing apprentice mercs res down to 90 %. I love how everyone gets up in arms over 6 % on the official boards. You screwed up and died in some way. 90 % is good enough suck it up. If I had a 59+ pally as my toon, I would never ask for a 96%. A healer merc should never be able to res the same as a real cleric IMO. Just like no tenacity sucks I have to get gallantry rk 2.

I'm speaking as a 30 hour a week 70 "casual" toon. Maybe you upper toons need the extra 6 %. It's just so silly people can only be content with the highest res, buffs etc.

Once you get 85 tell me how important that 6% is.

If you read this before I added this portion, my tone was not what it should have been.

Sure, %6 doesnt sound that high but you will find out how much more effort it is to level when the sweet xp that you get now turns lb/green/grey. Pretty sure that it devs stated that the 90% rezzes would be for the lower tiers of mercs.

Then get a Journeyman merc. Problem solved.

I'm not thrilled about it because it's a nerf and, honestly, if 6% isn't that big a deal then let me keep my 6%. It's not that big a deal, right? That said, if you're seriously worried about it, the obvious solution is to get the merc who can do a 96.

I'm going to pass on 85. I enjoy omens of war and depths of darkhollow too much to level past the content. After I get all the AAs I can get at 70, I'm sure I will work up slowly to 75 getting AAs as I go. This will give me an edge on higher level omens and depths zones. I want to see the TBS group missions. I doubt I'll ever level past 75, just no interest.

That 6% adds up over time. When I was lvl 75 I had max exp so I just turned reg exp off and went 100% AA's. After a few months of raid whipes and the occasional death in groups, even the 4% loss you get with 96% rez's took a whole yellow off my reg exp.

Over time it will add up.
However I have had lots of people willing to accept my 90 rezz as a paladin and now from my shaman or druid.
It does make a big difference at lower levels, but right now in my high 60s I dont notice what the difference.

It isn't life or death between a 90% and a 96%, but even as a Pally with a 90% I'm still going to get the 96% if it isn't a lot of hassle/waiting. In the 80s the experience has gotten too hard to come by for my normal style of play and I'd rather keep all I can.

I'll usually even go so far as to log in a friend's unused cleric alt once a day for its 100%.

The more I think about it, the sillier this is. I can understand being put off but healer mercs if you play a cleric. But I doubt many people are saying "We need a cleric in the group -- not for better healing, more rounded buffs, some DPS, etc but for the 96 rez vs 90!". I mean, what's the practical benefit to clerics here? Being able to charge to click-stick people in the Guild Lobby?

It just seems like the silliest bone to throw to upset clerics. I guess it's better than SOE downgrading their buffs or something.

So if your 5 zones from GL duoing with a pally friend, you die and pally friend lives; do you refuse the 90% res ? If so don't you insult the pally? Your res is only 90% and sucks! I love to travel back 5 zones !

some people like to rez to the guild lobby so they can get new buffs every time they die, balayan. which is great for their group who now get to sit around and do nothing while they wait for their tank/puller/healer to return.

Exactly xlitin. So many people play with the I must have the "best" buffs, xp, gear mentality. Wasn't omens of war designed for buffs of that era ? If you look at casual gear when omens was current and you now have elaborate defiant gear, bam you already have the hps and ac of conviction unbuffed most likely more. So why spam in GL for gallantry for omens content ? To grind xp "more" faster I guess. The more factor is huge in EQ.

In above example I would have gotten 90 % res, pally buffs and went back to having fun. My 70 paladin friend has affirmation. I enjoy it. I'm sure I'll be the only one to ever ask for it hehe.

I wouldn't be offended as a pally if someone turned down my 90%, at all. I completely understand the logic of time spent getting a rez vs. time spent just earning the xp to make up the difference, but its their choice.

It's hard to believe it has actually come to this. EQ used to be a really challenging game... hell levels anyone???? Now, players are whining because they may actually see noticable experience loss from DYING? Seriously, there are no more corpse runs for you gear, everyone can summon corpses to the GL, do we even need to get into healer mercs? I'm still amazed when I see people hanging out in the lobby spending more time begging for a rez or buffs than they do playing.

If you feel that it is soooo unfair that there is actually some pentalty left to dying in eq... maybe it's time to make the switch to a different game.

Heh, Khanrn. I know how you feel. I walked from Qeynos to Freeport uphill both ways in the snow too back in '99.

I remember losing all of my gear PERMANENTLY when I could not find my corpse soon enough in the Ocean of Tears and it poofed.

These whipper snappers have no idea.

Nothing like sitting on the edge of your seat, twitching at every sound, in the middle of a dungeon creep at 2:30 in the morning fearing the loss of everything you own if your group wipes. =D

If any company can come up with a game to bring that feeling back... they have my money.

Thats true but you could have the experience I had also. After spending a month playing my ranger (my very first char) he got drunk on the way to Odus and fell off the boat. He drowned and I couldn't get anyone to help find the corpse. The GM's wouldn't help so in the end I had to give up on that char.

Some of the old days were great but some were heart breaking and frustrating.
