I'm almost positive I'm remembering correctly that a few years ago there used to be a button on the character select screen that said "Explore" and when you hit it you could run around that platform and down a bridge that would zone you into the game if you wanted to. I don't think that you could access your items or anything like that. Does anyone remember if that had a purpose or not? I would have to guess it didn't because it has been removed. Just wondering...

You're right, there used to be such a thing... completely forgot about it.

I don't think there was a special purpose, it just let you see your different characters standing in a circle, and you could switch between them by clicking on them. Only running around though, no inventory or anything. And you could log in by "zoning" into the game. In fact, I don't think many people used it (or were even aware of it).

just as bbot said. It let you look at all your characters and switch to them.
never tried to have mine move around.

Even before you could explore the current character select world, the character select would take place in a house appropriate to your race which you could also explore.

I never did understand why they took the explore button away, unless there was some unhandled problem that could occur while running around the zone.
