My main's powersource slot has always been empty, although he's wearing several infusible (defiant) pieces. So I had a look at the TBS guide, but there's just not enough information on the lower level tradeskilled powersources...

Tradeskilled powersources

Dull Energeian Orbs:
  • req. lvl 30
  • pottery triv. 135 (clay, fired), 170 (unfired)
  • Air, Earth, Fire, Ice
Murky Energeian Orbs:
Foggy Energeian Orbs:
Combining the unfired orb with the corresponding firing sheet and essence will not create the fired one, but stackable sealed orbs that summon the final (non-stackable) power source. Sealed Dull Orbs, Sealed Murky Orbs, Sealed Foggy Orbs


Bought powersources

Misty Energeian Orbs:
It seems that Misty Orbs can also be made via pottery, recipes unknown (13 Sealed Misty Orbs on EQ Traders)

Translucent Energeian Orbs:
It seems that Translucent Orbs can also be made via pottery, triv. 290 (clay), 396 (fired), 450 (unfired); Example: Unfired Translucent Energeian Elemental Orb, Sealed Translucent Energeian Elemental Orb

Pure Energeian Orbs:
It seems that Pure Orbs can also be made via pottery, recipes unknown; list of Sealed Pure Orbs (only 6, on EQ Traders there are 17)

Here's on EQwiki on powersources and what stats and procs they give. It looks like they just do the top couple tiers of them though, not the lower level ones.

Pure cannot be used (it can be made but not USED) unless you are flagged through the relevant TBS raids. Translucent is the top unflagged tier

With all the negative stats on the purity orbs, I don't understand why these are any good. For a cleric, the procs on the weapons are not useful either. Is there any chance someone could explain.

Most of the time you dont even notice a difference from the negative stats since it isnt that hard to max stats in EQ anymore. Some are useful like more AC for a tank or more mana for a cleric.

Light Orbs and Elemental Orbs have no negative stats. Lots of casters use the Light Orbs as they add to HP and Mana, though as a Shaman I use Elemental most of the time which adds more HP than the Light Orb and some AC as well. Melee classes almost always use Elemental. A lot of Clerics go for the Ethereal Orb, AC boost and large Mana boost with some negative HP. The Growth Orb is nice too, you'll lose a lot of AC, but gain a bunch of HP which is helpful for raids with a lot of AEs; not very good for tanks at all but as a Shaman I shouldn't be getting hit on a raid unless we're about to wipe anyway. Tanks use the Metal Orb for big AC boost, and the negative resists can be made up very easily.
