when SOE finnishes its tireless effort to run EQ1 into the proverbial ground, how about giving it a new lease on life?

rewrite EQ1, with its origonal release, with a more casual gamer playstyle. get rid of the camping, rare spawns/drops, massive downtime. rewrite the origonal quests. loose the death experience penalty. revamp the level of difficulty on encounters to make it a mostly solo game and by solo i dont mean multi boxing.

a WoW playstyle with EQ1s world.

no body did casters better. no one. no one has a larger more intersting world. no one has a more diverse selection for characters. the just for fun things like levitate, an invis that was usefull at one time, snares that changed the way you could fight, fears that lasted more than a few seconds, crowd controll, feign death and the list just goes on and on.

EQ1 has the largest, most diverse fantastic world ever created. sitting mostly empty because gamers are finnished with time intensive game play. it is a waste. it is also a potentialy huge money maker just waiting for someone to recognize its potential.

EQ1 launched our imaginations with its fantastic world. WoW handed us the playstyle we want.

doesnt take a rocket scientist, just a little venture capitol. do it or do the gaming world a favor and sell EQ1 to blizzard. they could use a few extra hundred million bucks a month.

Don't worry about him, shadow's posts are almost always extremely opinionated crap that he tries to claim as fact.

A lot of the people still playing EQ1 do so because they don't want the WoW or WoW-clone playstyle. I would be all for a visual redo of EQ1, I absolutely love the game.... but as for changing it to be more WoW-like? Kind of defeats the point of it even existing.

They just need to release a server that has all of the old code, pre-PoP. Period. That's enough. Everything up to and including Luclin (in my opinion) is amazing, and was perfect.

Why?

Not everyone likes WoW or enjoys the playstyle. Sure, there might be millions playing it, and they're welcome to it, but that doesn't mean everyone does.

EQI wouldn't be EQI without all the things you seem to dislike. A severe death penalty, lots of group content, camping and downtime. Even if during the years a lot of this has been removed or toned down, at times even done quite well, the basic elements are still there.

Granted, with the next expansion there's about no death penalty anymore, lots of solo content has been added and downtime has been seriously reduced for some time now. Like I said, not everything is bad although for instance there was no reason to tone down the death penalty.

Just my opinion though.

Almost forgot: when a game has been up and running for about 9 years now, I doubt you can say that SOE has been running it into the ground for the last 6 or so.

Perhaps one day you'll get that game you are so desperately seeking shadow, with dwarfs!, but till then it's pointless to keep bashing all the games.

A while ago, someone offered Shadowrelm a bet that if he (Shadowrelm) would make stockmarket predictions, the other guy would go do the opposite and make millions. I can only imagine that such a setup would be unbeatable, given Shadowrelms ceaseless effort to be wrong about everything.

Get yourself a Mac Mini and play on the Ak Anon server. It hasn't been patched since PoP was released. That's about as close as you're going to get to the old days.

I think you are going to have to face the fact that the good old days are gone and never coming back. Thats why they are the good old days.

I think overall SOE is just not very good at keeping their customers happy. Having played SOE games for the last 8 years I'v always had the feeling they were doing the least amount of work for the most profit. This is a problem throughout all SOE games not just EQ.

Many may not like WoW but I give them props. They listen to ALL of their customers, not just the high end players, and make changes accordingly. They dont put expansions out at blazing speed relying on expansion sales but rather rely on keeping their customers happy with the expansion they just bought. They also made the previous expansions easier to get through so newer players could quickly catch up. The best thing I liked about WoW was if I had an hour to kill I could acually get something done.

So its probably just a matter of time before SOE is out of the MMO business whether they bring their games to a console or not. The fact is kids don't want to play any of the games SOE have out there and older folks like me are fed up with SOE and avoid them like the plague.

I didn't intend for this to be rant about SOE but I guess I have some unresolved anger that built up over the years. lol.

please don't encourage SoE to morph eq into the Britney Spears of online games....

I know I know....that chick has tons of sales, but come on, that has to be the lowest common denominator....maybe I am just Idealistic, or I like to think I have good taste....but just because some hot chick can dress sexxy and sing catchy melodies that the sheep all go flocking to, doesn't mean that to do anything else that results in a smaller client base is failure.......

Sounds like EQ2. :-/

EQ1 is already way easy to solo to way past the original game content. I play EQ over other games due to the challenges (at least at the higher levels now .. not much challenge <60, and really you could say <75 any more with some recent changes.

Maybe you should try EQ2, graphics are alot better, it's way easy and designed for casual play, and has the points you listed plus more features designed for ease of use.

Just my take on your suggestions.

EQ is already way too easy compared to what it once was. why make it even easier? :(. go play wow if you like that game so much. I for one am for returning EQ to the difficulty it once was. exp loss for deaths back to what it used to be. skills and spells more class specific. i am starting to feel like eq is going to merge all the character types into one.

Anyone else notice that whenever Shadowrelm posts a "doom and gloom" post about EQ, that he doesn't respond to his own thread?

I mean he's trying to bring rainclouds over our parade, but when the rays start shining through (posts with a positive argument), he's nowhere to be found afterward.

LOL, anyway... I just thought that was funny.

I guess, if anything it makes us appreciate the game we have.

I don't want to play WoW.

"going to merger all character types into one."

Yeah, Shaman's get a 90% rez? what the crap?
What is next, harm touch for clerics?

That rez is next to useless anyway. Can't be used during combat, and most people would rather take a Call of the Wild from me to get back to the group and then get a 96% rez in the guild lobby later.
