From my understanding with the release of the new expansion we will be able to research spells above 70 now. my question is this. since they said that current accounts will have access to the new content of this expansion for a short period of time....does this also include the ability of research? or will we have to wait for the actual release date to begin churning out the 70's spells.
You do not have to own any expansions to do tradeskills. Tradeskills are not tied to zone access and level caps. (With exceptions, see below)
You may be limited in what supplies you can get and tradeskill quests you can do because you can't go to certain zones and you may be limited in some of the recipes you can acquire if your level cap is 50. (Recipes as in Enchanter transmute spells, etc)
In short, yes you can do the new research as soon as the research code goes in and you do not have to buy the new expansion at all. (Unless of course they put ingredients only in expansion zones and make them NO TRADE)

After 16 years, I'm not listing every friggin character.
He's referring to recipe additions to EQ, that I'm not sure of, but don't think will go live till release, but I'm not positive .. 81+ spells already available in-game, via the opened zones.

yup. that was what i was referring to. was hoping that recipes for the 70 spells which are currently uncraftable would be during this sneak peek timeperiod if the recipes can be found. guess ill just have to wait and see.

Assume you're asking if you can do the new SoD only research before SoD comes out.
No. Those recipes won't come out until the expansion goes live. The preview was just for a couple of the zones and the quests in them.
