Yes.. It's another "I'm coming back to EQ" post, sorry =D

Anyway, Haven't played in a really long time and as I sit at the character select screen I decided to poke around Alla for a bit.

So.. Hello =D I'm playing on the Luclin server, but not sure of what I'll be making. Guess I could just use some tips on what is new in EQ.

After the tutorial, is CR quests the best way to go? Will I see much low-level groupage that isn't people 14 boxin? I got into EQ in the first place for the community, and I know there won't be anymore EC tunnel atmosphere... but will is it really just high end where to start to meet people?

Thanks

Hello Hammerdine, wb to EQ. I myself just returned to EQ after about a year and a half abscence. I'm on Drinal myself, people still seem fairly friendly in game. Not sure about low level grouping, as my wife and we usually duo everywhere we go, so we don't ask for any groups, at least not at the lower levels. But I have seen quite a bit of people on lower level toons in the TSS zones. If the population is somewhat the same from Luclin to Drinal than I don't think you'll have any problems finding some groups.

Well its not like the old days if thats what you are looking for. With so many games out there now, the EQ community has pretty much whithered up. You will probably find yourself doing alot of soloing till you get up into the level 40 or 50ish range. After that you can get some groups in the hotzone( zones with exp bonus's ).

I guess it depends on how you want to play and your attitude. If you have large blocks of time to play you will be fine. If you just want to log on for a couple hours you will probably be frustrated as it may take you that long to just find a group.

There is some positive things. Good gear for all lvls now randomly drop that you can either wear or sell. Unfortunalty you still have to have a trader up in the bazaar if you want to sell anything though.

Soloing has been made much easier for most classes until you get into the 50's atleast.

At least part of the reason that many people are leery of grouping with strangers is that you may be suspended/banned/rolled back if another player is cheating somehow. This is true even if you knew nothing about it or had no way of knowing it was going on.

Granted, you probably wont be banned if your highest character is lvl 15 and its obvious you didnt do anything. But, still, being suspended and having a GM send you hate mail is reason enough, in some peoples mind, to not get involved in pickup groups.

As for me, I feel relatively confident that I would be able to recognize if someone was cheating and when I should leave. So I create and join PUG's all the time. If I am leveling a 50's alt, then I often seek at least one other player so they can add dps, or at least loot all the corpses I leave laying around. It bothers me that a corpse may have a defiant armor on it and I didnt even check it.

Other than this situation, just stick to the hot zones and you are sure to find some fellow players at peak hours at least. Several hot zones are empty on off-hours.

wow pretty crazy of SoE to do that to everyone who happened to be grouped with a player. i can maybe understand a rollback if the result was in way more exp then should have been coming in. but a suspension seems like overkill to be given to players when it can't even be verified if they were an active and willing participant in the cheating. Of course I guess this could be expected of service providers that are willing to randomly teleport their paying customers into space. :P

I too have been gone forever and may come back. My Pally and Ranger are 70s as I recall but am wondering if I should start over again. I loved a lot of the lower level quests, well, that may have all changed now but not sure I want to come in at a high level and try and find everything.

Wow, was just re-reading this thread. I have been gone a long time. I remember I just got my horses for my toons, etc. The EC Tunnel is gone? There were vendors and a portal to a portal to a zone I used to love, with the giant turtles, etc. and the ship for trade skills. When I left, the new city was in place, new higher level places with in zones.

I may bring mine back but I am leaning towards just starting from scratch or could bring them all back including trader and just make a new toon. That would give me plenty of playing choices.

New toons are fun. I have to make a new one every 6 months or so just to fight off the boredom.

oh, the boredom sets in on all these games, trust me, after a period of time. You are right, will talk with Sony, see easiest way to get everything up and running. I had heard they merged servers more than once. Hehe, when I played my server merged and took another's name, so we shall what they can find and if they cant get them, will start fresh again which wont be bad at all and if they can, will play new one and once in a while the other two to remember some of the things along the way.
