What is the best gear that a level 71 pally would be able to get to twink a Mage? Please don't say to go to Bazaar, that's not what I'm looking for.

You should be able to spend a day in the 30-50 zones, going completely stupid killing everything. you should have enough defiant gear to put in most slots for the first 30 levels or so on your twink mage. Also, be sure to look up and collect the items for the blightfire moors newbie armor quests to fill up the leftover slots. Any leftover PLATE defiant gear can be used to gear up your mage's pet. Stick with air pets, and let your pally heal outside of group and you'll be 59 in VERY short order. Then Elaborate Defiant all around for a decent twink mage.

Boomsticker has a good point though -- I'd browse the drop lists from Kunark/Velious/Luclin zones and see what you like. Aside from top raid mobs, you can probably solo most of it and the items mainly pre-date req level tags. Obviously this doesn't apply to zones revamped since then such as Veeshan's Peak.

Check out some of the named cycles in Ssraeshza, Grieg's End... or even Vex Thal, if you feel like putting the time into getting the mage keyed. Most of the stuff is required/recommended of 55+, so I wouldn't do it for when he's a really low level.

Look for a Tolapumj's robe (Seb drop), get the mage keyed for ToV and kill bosses in there for him, etc.
