Canni -- it gets better, right?

My shaman is up around lvl 27 and I've lessened my meleeing for root/rot tactics (which is so easy it feels like cheating). However I've been less than impressed with Canni v1.0. For approximately 5% of my hitpoints, I get back 1% mana. Given that most of my spells take a couple percent off my mana at least, we're talking perhaps 15-25% of my hitpoints for one extra casting. Not exactly a winner.

I already considered that twinking has some effect here in that my mana pool is larger and what's 1% now may well have been 7% back in the day. But my gear is pretty balanced stuff so my hp pool has increased in reasonable approximation with my mana pool. So the ratio should be roughly the same.

I'm guessing later versions will show better returns? Or is that just the way it is? I'm not expecting 1:1 of course but the current output makes me hesitant to even waste a gem slot on it. Maybe mudflation and OOC regen has rendered it partially obsolete.

It does get better, although Canni 2 is almost not worth it based on cost vs return.

Given the higher mana return on resting, I tend to not even bother with Canni when soloing with my shammy.

I use it on a mount, so you're getting med time + canni, but it still bites. And definitely not worth casting when out of combat regen is going.

I never did claim my robo-boar. Maybe I'll give it to the shaman.

Jophiel, get in there and tank em at 27. Lets keep them offensive and defensive skilled capped. Be sure to get the stun shammy only spear from kaesora a little later. Go get em!

As a level 80 shaman I have to say that, yes, Canni does get better, and it's an extremely useful ability.

In most group situations, I never run out of mana, even when I was slower and main healer in a group in the Mech. Guardian the other night.

At the moment I have Ancestral Hearkening Rk. I which does 1161 damage and heals 626 mana. I also have Rank 2 of the Cannibalization AA which does 4057 damage and heals 2248 mana. The ratio for both is about 1.8:1. I constantly hit Ancestral Hearkening whenever it refreshes, and use the AA when I get fairly low. If my hp gets low I hit myself with a HoT and keep using Canni, I usually end up with full hp, and a bit more mana than I had before.

I dont canni a lot on jonwinnie but it is worth it at higher levels, especially with regen and sitting on a mount. I would even use it towards the end of combat when I am wielding the soulstripper and looking for it to proc.
When I was 27 I was still root rotting and melee and of course using my clicky snare.

If you solo alot ( which I did with my shaman ) Canni did keep my alteration skill up easily...the return at lower levels isn't great, but for the alteration skill-ups I continued to use it.

Shammy epic 2.0 clicky (500 hp heal/1k crit heal over time) is roughly on the same timer as the canni AA. No help at lower lvls but thaught I would throw that in.

Having a mount really helps to speed up recovery time. Not only do you get the full effect of meditation but having to stand up to cast canni yields less mana than just sitting there on the ground with the new system of mana regen.

I do have my 1.5, which has a decent HoT on it, though I mainly use it to make melees happy. I need to stop being lazy and finish that 2.0.

I definitely always sit on a mount when possible. Unfortunately my current favorite group exp. zone is Mechamatic Guardian which is indoors, but I still don't run out of mana when I group there!

My Shammy is almost 66, and I have yet to see the point of using Canni (at Canni IV right now).

Xythex told me you were playing again...

I punched him in the mouth and called him a liar. I guess he didn't deserve to be called a liar.

Sucker...

I mostly just hang out in the guild lobby like an abandoned dog, waiting for you to come back.

Sometimes I hear a sound and my ears perks and I scramble up from the floor all excited. Then it's just Chlorr.

Oh, I see how it is. That's ok, I'll just go sit in the corner over here and weep giant lizard tears. *sniff sniff*

I can use it then sit again between ticks on mana regen so basically getting the benefit of both, but I'm lazy so I usually don't bother. ON the other hand, there have been more than a few times when I've run out of mana during a fight and desparately needed mana for one more spell cast. Canni came in handy those times.

At lower levels its all about if you can afford the spell slot and remember to actually cast it when it pops. Return/reward sucks so I abandoned the spell version for the spell slot plus the timer sucks. That was long before you could memorize spell sets instead of searching out each spell.
Once you gain the AA version it will become almost automatic to use it every time it pops or close to it, depending on the mana demands of your group/raid.
While we shaman will never be totally happy with the ratio, its basically free mana so no complaining.
