Upcoming Hotzones Aug. 2008Follow

Had a look at the Hotzone Wiki article and found out that the upcoming hotzones have already been advertised on SoE forums??? :-)

I wonder how to get to those Wakening Lands though, through Kael is quite hazardous, unless faction is boosted first there.

It is interesting to have a regular change ofcourse, makes it all a bit more interesting.

Nothing sees invis on your way through Kael, you can run straight through.

Edit: Moreover, Druids and Wizards got port spells to Wakening Lands.

Well, Old Sebilis and Lower Guk return to hotzone goodness with LG even getting a minor upgrade (35 to 40)...

Which means that no one will go. Skyshrine was a ghost town during the height of the Legacy Promotion and I could spend hours in htere all alone in the zone. Who's going to pass through it on an even longer walk?

I personally would just rather hit the zone, find a group and level.

I will also miss Blightfire Moors. That was the best hotzone I have ever been to.

It'll probably wind up like Nadox and people lvl 55+ will just stay in Sebilis, killing shrooms, reets and juggs.

Actually for WL, there is a guildhall port to cobalt scar. I am max-KoS in skyshrine and well liked in Kael, but CS->SS->WL is still faster for me than GD->EW->Kael->WL. And Joph is right that SkyShrine is a ghost town. I have used that to my advantage many times on that run - simply training the WL zoneline knowing no one would ever be in the way. Once you get the SkyShrine route down pat you can make it quickly and safely through the zone at a relatively low level if you are KoS there.

The first time round, I went the GD-EW-Kael-WL route with an invis potion in Kael. Worked very well, I was exploring WL and killing some panthers and getting really annoyed with that special panther that just keeps gating non stop and then runs back to attack. Suddenly I get attacked by a red giant and flee to the Plane of Growth, after then noticing I can not get out of there whatsoever, I gate out and a druid guild member was kind enough to port me to Cobalt Scar and leads me to Skyshrine.

Unfortunately, I zone faster than him and my invis drops while he is still zoneing, lol. Just about every mob is light blue max, so no real dangers.

I just ran to the zoneline, no real problems. I think I prefer that route too, it's faster and the spot to hunt is better.

I was already kos without doing anything, I think I'll go back to Skyshrine too, see how much xp I can get there.

I wonder why several of these are repeats. Sure they are great zones (the NE-most island in Timorous Deep is quad kiting heaven by the way -- I highly recommend it for Druids, Bards, etc. as the swabbies and pirates can be easily pulled and there is plenty of beach without wanderers to kite them), but with so many other great empty zones in Norath it would be nice to send the crowds to new lands for their adventures.

mind if someone explains something
i know hot zones give crazy exp
but is that for every mob?
like lets say loio, there are level 10 mobs, are they still crazy bonus exp?
or any other hotzone, does it only apply to mobs between the 5 levels? or is it every mob in zone?

The exp bonus applies to all mobs in the zone (at least this is how it was for all of the previous hot zones) - Blightfire for example was officially a hot zone for lvl 30-35, but you would also get bonus exp for rats/snakes which are lvl 20+.

Lake of Ill Omen is a fantastic choice for a hotzone. It's a huge place with numerous camps since it was developed to hold dozens of groups. [Read the old zone postings and you'll see the place was insanely busy when Kunark was fresh]

While true that a moderately geared level 5 with potions could make short work of many of the lower camps today (i.e., the newb area south of Cabilis) at least the respawn timer is fast and there is so many mobs that 1 or 2 powerlever/uber twink types shouldn't hold the whole zone (seemed to be a problem with hotzoned Neth lair for example and might be with the Feerrot?).

I'm looking forward to rolling at least one new character to level up there, one of my favourite zones in EQ.

The thing I find funny about Lake of Ill Omen, is that it actually has a negative experience modifier on it normally. I wonder if they set the detriment at 0% (base exp) and then add the hotzone boost on top of that.

Also, my facts may be messed up, because I only have half a clue of what's been going on since TSS released. Like when Joph mentioned the Legacy Promotion... I'm lost. Maybe they took the detriment off of the zone a while back.

I honestly don't remember what the modifier is in LoIO. IIRC, they adjusted it down (so negative base) because it's also a "newbie zone". Newbie zones normally get like +40% or some ridiculous amount. Usually, that's not a problem because there's nothing much higher than say 10th level in most newbie zones, but LoIO could be hunted up into your 30s I think (been a long time honestly).

But then they may have totally changed those modifiers. Last time I paid much attention was before they made the last few newbie changes, so who knows?

I took my newly-rolled Beastlord to the Feerott to grind out 2-5 on the spiderling highway. It's funny, this used to be my farming location of choice in times past since it was the most platinum per hour I could make at the time. XP was extremely fast.

Then wandered over to Lake of Ill Omen via F.V. I am playing on a different machine and forgot to download maps, it kind of boggles me at this point that maps for all the under 70 / more than two years old (not raid) zones aren't given to everyone by Sony. How game breaking is giving the returning players all the Kunark maps really? Or at least the Hotzone maps when they get announced maybe would be a good idea.

But I digress, I know LoIO well enough to xp without a map. As a level 5 I headed up towards the Cabilis entrance and cleared the open newb area. When that Dark Blued I moved south to the area North of the Windmill. The adds make it a lot dicier for the unbuffed at this level. The majority of mobs here were conning yellow/red at level 13. A level 20 was being powerlevelled in the same area and spawns were not an issue. Quantity and respawn rate = lots for us all.

Overall the zone was very quiet. Aside from that one level 20 it was a handful of high 20s players that didn't stay long. Might be different on a weekend though. If my memory serves correct the higher level types will want to xp around the Sarnak and Goblin forts and eventually inside them.
