I can't kill anythingFollow

#1 Aug 09 2008 at 11:42 AM Rating: Decent
Hello. I'm a new magician and I hae just downloaded the game. Everything works great. But I can't kill anything. Maybe there is something I'm suppose to do that I'm not doing. Someone I should talk to maybe. An NPC or something. All I know is that I can't kill those monsters that are right outside of the city. The little snakes. The tiny spiders. The rats. They all seem to do more damage than me. And when I try and move out of the way, I can't cast anything. I suppose this means I have to be still in order to cast. But I'll die that way. What do I do? What am I doing wrong? Why can't I kill anything? I have a knife in my hand. I have my robe on. And I put my new spells in the shortcut area. I don't see any people (real players) so I can't ask anyone in the game. What do I do?

On Character Select, hit Enter Tutorial. It will walk you through stuff and teach you how to kill stuff, as well as how to interact with NPCs, do quests, and much more, while you gain experience and abilities.

Also, there is always real people in the Tutorial to ask questions, etc.

Make sure you have the mob targeted, and click on your Melee Attack button. It it says you are too far away get closer. Also, to make other hotkeys, Click on the EQ button, go to actions, and click on Actions Window. An Actions Window will appear on your screen. From the Actions Window you can click on the Combat Tab, then right click on an empty box. There will be combat skills in there that you can use. Click on a skill and it goes into the window. Now left click on the Skill Button you just made, HOLD the left click down until the little block is on your cursor. Then drop the block onto an empty spot on your hotkeys bar. Do the same with the Abilities Page, checking to see what abilities are available to you. Then you can do the same with the Social tab. There are some social keys already made. You can switch to the next tab to make some of your own.

To make your own, right click on an empty block on the social tab, type in a name of it. Then make a macro with the info that you need. For example, a basic button is an Assist key. Right click on an empty social box. Type Assist in the Social Name. On the first line type /assist. Click the Accept box at the bottom right, and then click and hold the left mouse button on hotkey you just made. Move it to your hotkey bar. Now if you are targeted on someone and want to help them, you just click the Assist key you just made, and you will retarget the mob they are targeted on and you can nuke away.

The Tutorial is great for learning. Follow it along and you will get some gear, some spells, and some experience. You can also buy spells there for cheap.

Hope this helps a little.

At higher levels (over 15) you will do less melee fighting and more blasting with spells. You cant be movign and cast spells. Your best tactic right now is to cast first spell from long range. Hopefully before mob closes to your melee range you can get off a second spell. then you start melee attacks. Move away from mobs if you can to try to recast spells. If not try in combat, but if you get knocked around or stunned your cast will be interrupted.

Go to tutorial.

The tutorial (Mines of Gloomingdeep) is a fantastic way to learn EQ; I wish it would have been around when I started. Make sure you do every quest in it, as you'll not only learn game mechanics but you'll get good experience.

One of the biggest benefits you can utilize in the tutorial is the cleric spell buff from the Erudite (dark skinned guy in a robe with an enormous forehead) in the main cavern. Don't go anywhere without it.

Are you using your pet? You get a pet to summon even at lvl 1 :)

You didn't talk to the Priest Of Dischord and turn into player vs player did you? If so that is the problem. Is the name above your character in red? If so you probably will just have to start that character over.

Aside from that I cant think of any reason you cant attack. You have a weapon equipped right? And yeah, as a mage you always want to have a pet up. Are you doing any damage to the mobs at all? Even at level 2 the snakes shouldnt be much of a challenge.
