I'm broke after my recent spell grabbing/gear catch-up on my mage. So I'm trying to decide which alt I want to level up, but am having trouble deciding. Anyone mind lending me their wisdom when it comes to generating cash below level 70? Preferbly 50-69 range.

Right now my top choices are:
-Cleric (Have a 29 cleric with bazier of elemental fire pet out)
-Pally (Decked out, fabled ghoulbane, max dex - level 34)
-Necromancer (36)
-Monk (33)

All have high end bazaar gear, and a fungi/35% haste belt/few other items to share between them.
I'm not set on using any of the classes I listed above, just thought I'd list 'em :P

So if anyone knows of a class that can make a fair amount of money, and is halfway fun to play - please do share.

Edit: I know the cleric can get money from buffing/rezzing, and I'm keeping that as an option... But I'd really like to have an alt that can farm, or something similar, so I can get money from soloing.

At only 29 I hate to say it but your cleric wont make money buffing, when other clerics have extended buff aa's and are able to MGB. You may be able to get some donations but nowhere near what a Cleric or Enchanter with MGB aa's can make.

I would go with the necro. Pet's are dispensible, you dont die all the time. You can literally target a mob, send the pet in, go grab a soda, come back and loot the body. Rinse repeat. Though that would end up being a lot of soda.

Well.. Obviously, "which alt I want to level up" means I'd level up before hand. And aren't necromancer pets incredibly weak? To such an extent that after 40 a lot of necros don't even use them, if they do it's purely for extra DPS during kiting?

1. Start a mage (or the class you think is best for playing untwinked through tutorial).

2. Play through the tutorial and make sure you check all corpses.

3. Sell all and put money in shared bank

***Repeat until you get a LoN booster pack, which you sell in bazaar for 40-50k depending on server***

Twink a toon of your choice for faster killing.

Do booster packs really drop from tutorial? If so that's awesome... But what I actually mean is I'm trying to figure out what class can solo farm, say, Seb, high-end tradeskill components, etc. the best. Or if say, an enchanter would be worth while for jewelcraft. Or if even a Cleric would be worth-while for buffing in GL (With a few hundred mid 60 AAs) / group loot rights (Pretty much the "law" of the game back in the day, but does it still apply today?).

Yes, booster packs drops in tutorial, I've gotten 2 myself (not trying to get them, just playing alts through it).

I would not count on making a fortune as buffer/rezzer in GL.

Not looking to make a fortune, just 50-100k to get my spells/runes/research comps.

You dont need to fight mobs that give you xp... You just need to know which mobs drop the most plat. At 40+ you can go to Burning Wood and clean the hut of giants out over and over and over.

At 60'ish you can go do that place with the goblin king, I forget the name of it.

I think the place you're thinking of is either Droga or Nurga...

Yes Droga that is the place. Been years since I've been there so I was too lazy to look it up. Very decent money making, and about 5 names that drop decent loot. (Invis and just run around to kill names if thats all you want to do). It gets boring pretty fast though...which is why you should invite friends.

I don't know what level your mage is, but mages make great farmers. The boats in Dulak are great for gem drops. Acrylia Caverns is a good cash farming spot, as well. If your mage is 71+, you could farm TSS spell drops.

Good luck!

The BEST place to make money in game is in the Bazaar. Dont have to kill anything and can do it with a level one toon. Buy low sell high.

Outside of trader mode go I would go to look at killing the elite sand giants at your level. You can even get a quest that will pay you extra money for killing them.

Pay attention to Mandies post regarding your mage farming.

Necro pets are much squishier than mage pets, for example. If you're pet tanking, it won't be long before you realize that you're better off aggro kiting (or fear kiting in certain circumstances). Undead targets would be a potential exception (your undead slow will make those viable pet tank targets).

As a general rule, plan on a necro pet providing 20% of total damage output when kiting. That's nothing to sneeze at, especially since it's mana free dps. You can improve pet dps significantly by buffing attack and stats (eg, strength). HoS is a good start.

Pet survivability, if you decide you want to pet tank, can be improved with mage-summoned pet gear, and the dps can be improved somewhat with summoned weapons (more so after level 60 than before) and the haste mask.

Either a mage or a necro should provide lots of good opportunities, and both will level fast. Have fun.

I think everyone else pretty much covered it. I thought I would mention that I have all those classes you mentioned and the two best soloers on the list are the mage and the necro. They have different fighting styles, necros need to have the ability to kite stuff around when the pull goes bad. I rarely make any plat buffing people, I offer to do it for free and it is rare I get takers.

When I need plat I usually spend a few hours at the sand giants in South Ro. My pet cant easily kill one in a about 20 second even without my help. I only pull in about 1-2k an evening but it is easy and I can do other stuff while I am doing it like baking. Dont forget the fine steel weapons sell back for 5pp a peice and there is a vendor in south ro (another bonus for the mage, summoned weight bags).

When short of plat I go to Acrylia Caverns. The weapons they drop are 145 pp each to vendor. Each stack of runes is 40-100 pp (depending on type) . This + defiant gear + named drops sold in Baz makes for good plats. Even discounting baz sold gear I can make 1500 pp on average in AC in about 1 1/2 - 2 hours just selling the weapons and runes.

Get buffed, go AC. Kill 2 hrs. Go sell. Wash, rinse, repeat. If you've got several hours to go in there and kill you'll have 10k pp before you know it.

I might add that at level 68 (Monk) the Mobs in Inner AC are still green/lt blue, so I grind aa's while I'm at it. Two birds, etc.

Good luck.

I would say that if you are looking to farm to make cash, your best bet is what others have already said. Go with a necro, a mage or a beastlord. I play all 3 and I would say that it kind of comes down to your play style on which of the 3 to pick. If you are a person that like to meelee, obvsiouly your pick will be the beastlord. Bst + pet = pretty good dps, throw in slows, shaman line of hp buffs, great pet heals and usefull AA and you have a farming machine.

Then again, if you don't like to get your hands dirty, then decide if you like to stand in one place, or like to be moving around. If kiting is not your thing, the mage is the choice for you. Earth pet rooting mobs allows you to fry em up for dinner pretty quick, or Air pet stuns em to stop those pesky complete healers/gaters.

But, if you like to be on the move, then start kiting around with your necro dropping dots galore and letting lil squishy pet poke em from behind adding to your dps total. Feign death is a much added benefit for those *WHOOPS!* moments.

All in all, it comes down to your personal play style.
