Dumb ThingsFollow

After reading "The Game dumbed down" and seeing a few people posting some of the silly/dumb things they did when they first started playing, I thought I would just make a thread for that subject.

I remember when I first started playing, I "rolled" a high elf wizard in Felwithe. I remember during the daytime (in game) it was ok, I could see just fine, but when night fell, I couldnt see anything. It was ok when I got jumped by mobs, because I could see them, since they sorta glowed, but running anywhere was an adventure in itself. I figured this was normal, but was wondering what the heck they were talking about when they said that HE's got infravision, since it didnt seem so to me. Then after two months of this, I made a remark to a RL friend about it, and after Laughing till he cried, he told me to adjust the brightness on my monitor, and the Gamma setting.

A while later, I am hunting in LOIO, and using the snare and shoot method on my ranger, after having decided that a wizard was not my cup of tea. When I got adds or a resist, I would run away, and if I got hit, I would use target myself, heal, then retarget the mob running after me to snare it. If it was really going badly, I would try for a root instead of a snare. Imagine my horrow when I forgot to retarget the mob, and would instead root myself. I absolutely hated running the lag intensive stretch of river with all the stupid spiders in FV to get my corpse.

After several deaths, I finally changed my attack key to "Z". Who knew trying to talk to NPC's could be so hazardous.

In Qeynos, one day, I got a request for a SoW. I said sure, hit the spell gem with the boot on it, and immediately got killed by the nearby guards for attempting to snare the guy.

That little pool of blood in the Crushbone Castle has drowned me numerous times. So has the ditches there.

I deleted my very first Everquest toon because I looted some no-drop items and thought I was stuck with them forever.

Lol, I deleted my first toon after I fell for an offer to let this high level guy port me 'somewhere'. He said he needed some help and was willing to pay me 40plat. An amount of money I thought I'd never ever see. He ported my lvl 6 Iksar to the Druid Guild in Surefall Glade and bound me there.

I died about 5 times, almost instantly, trying to get out of there, then just deleted the toon.

I liked the area though and rolled a Human Ranger. Sure Fall Glade is probably still my favorite village.

I've mentioned this before but, my first "real" EQ character was a paladin. My previous experience with paladins came from playing AD&D 1st ed. where you had to have a minimum charisma of 17 (on a scale of 3-18) to be a paladin. As such, I wisely placed as many of my free stat points as possible into charisma at character creation Smiley: rolleyes

This was back in '99, well before "Oh, just fix it with gear" was an option.

The original manual suggested that if you lose your corpse in a hard to find place at a low level, you should just let it rot.

I did this until level 14.

One of my lost corpses had 225 silvers from farming fire beetle eyes on it =(

Man I had flashbacks reading this post lol. I lost 6 bags of crushbone belts somewhere between Felwith and Kaladim one night on my little wood elf warrior. :( I was heart broke for a day until someone found my corpse lol.

My first toon ever was a half-elf ranger. One day I jumped on a boat heading to the warrens and was drinking as I waited for the boat to carry me across the water. This would have been fine except I stood up and walked right off the boat.I spent about an hour swimming and never did find land.So I opted to just die and respawn at my bind point.

Never did find that corpse.Qeynos wasn't exactly the necro headquarters back then.

Forgot to mention that in order to travel anywhere at night, I would get on a path, and use mouse look to look straight down, and as long as there was a path, I was good. Just follow that stupid white line, and hope nothing jumps me.
