Man I am so lostFollow

#1 Jun 17 2008 at 6:49 PM Rating: Decent
I bought the Anniversary edition when it first came out a year or two ago. I played for barely two weeks and never touched it again. I was way into SWG, COH, and other MMOs at the time.

I heard about the free trial going on, so I re-installed the game and I have been trying to play, but I am so lost. I am in the plains of knowledge trying to find quests and get out of the city, but nothing is working. Do I have to stay in the tutorial? I got out of it at level 6 to explore other things.

I don't know what to do. =/

I so envy you.

The Plane of Knowledge, or PoK for short, is like a hub, a great railway station where people pass through on their way from one place to the next. In the middle is the Library, where you can buy spells, and scattered about are buildings with various vendors where you can buy food and drink for your character.

There are stones places around the outskirts of the Plane of Knowledge that will take you to relatively safe areas. Call up your in-game map (default key is Backspace, unless I'm much mistaken) and fiddle with the map until you've figured out that you are the little black arrow in the centre. and what everything else is. Then click a stone, look around you, enjoy the thrill of seeing Norrath for the first time.

I would suggest staying in tutorial until level 10. When you level you will get a "mail message" (the window pops up) of places Sony thinks you should go level in.

If you are sick of the Kobolds in the tutorial you could use the Cabilis stone in the south end of PoK. This will take you into the Field of Bone. The area where you zone in is level 2-5ish. if you follow the path towards the centre of the zone there is a pit area full of scorpions, skeletons, etc. which is good until level 10 anyways.

Note: Do not go to Cabilis unless you are an Iksar (the guards will kill you).

This pit area is a great area to learn the game. The badger-looking fellows (Burynai) are pretty tough so avoid them until they are not yellow or red cons to you. This is a low-traffic zone nowadays, though some pass through to level 10-16 in Kurn's Tower which is located around the north end of the central pit area.

----

2nd easy option from PoK is to use the Shar Val Stone in the middle area on the East side. This zones you into the Vah Shir starting zone of Shadeweaver's Thicket. The farther you travel away from the city entrance and PoK book the harder the enemies become.

----

3rd easy option is to exit the tutorial via the cave opening in there and do Crescent Reach. You can go to level 20 in CR if you really want to, though most start Blightfire Moors somewhere past 15.

Good luck and welcome back.

While running around the Plane of Knowledge, look for NPCs with <Armor Quests> over their heads. They'll give you low level quests for some pretty decent starting gear. I know that the Crescent Reach zone has newbie armor quests as well but I've never tried them.

Thanks guys! I am very grateful for all the feedback! I know understand PoK a lot better thanks to you guys!

I did happen to travel to Shar once. I have tried every armor quest person in PoK and they won't give me quests. I guess I have to grind a while. Ugh. I hate grinding. Oh well.

Apaprently you need to hit lvl 11 first. It shouldn't take you long though.

Talk to this person and this fellow.

If you just came back and doing the 2 month freebie thingy then you should be able to /claim a few pieces of the new armor for your level and a weapon and a couple other nifty items. Also, for newbie quests with good xp hit Cresent Reach. You can find all the quests there by clicking the Zones... By Era... link on the left of this page. Just choose Serpent Spine> Cresent Reach> Quests for this zone, then click on the Level Range at the top to put in order from highest to lowest. Good luck, and welcome back!

If all your characters are lvl 10 or less I strongly suggest just starting new ones. Make your home city Crescent Reach. Talk to all the (clearly marked) quest givers. Line up every quest you can at your level and hit them all. As you hit lvl 5-10-15, etc new quests will open up. Go hit all the now relevant quest-givers and do those. Almost no MOBs in the CR zone will aggro you unless you start a fight with them. This makes surviving much easier at those levels. (Undead are exception to this rule, BTW) Smiley: schooled

A lvl 5-10 CR geared toon is better geared that a lvl 15 Gloomgeared toon, hands down. If youve been through the tutorial once and remember the basic commands it is pretty pointless to go to Gloom anymore.

Also you can lvl tradeskills up to around 50-55 for free in CR.

Have fun!!

I discovered, if your starting city is Crescent Reach, the armor quest-givers in PoK will not give the series of quests that reward you with the original newbie armor that used to require collecting bits and combining them in a tradeskill container. I am not sure if the quest-givers for the supplimental bits will offer the quests.
