Give it admin rights, that normally fixes logon issues in vista.

There was a bug posted somewhere a while back about the patcher bombing under Vista if it was run the first time without admin rights. It dumps a file like everquest.ex_ or _verquest.exe or something like that in your EQ folder. The screen flickering after the patcher could be the SOE patcher trying to launch Everquest.exe, which doesn't work because it's not the right Everquest.exe. Deleting the old everquest.exe file and renaming the _file to everquest.exe was the fix.
Just right click on the EQ icon and click "Run as Administrator".
Gave it admin rights, nothing.
Will look for the _ file, but so far nothing.
