There seems to be a problem with the Patcher. It hangs trying to download the file ruleIndex.dat.

Just to let everyone know

Not sure if patchme still works, but if it does you can try to bypass the patcher. Go to the start menu, select run, and type in:

"C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

Try that out if you're having problems logging in. Also, if you have wineq on your computer, you can run everquest through that, as it also bypasses the patcher.

Rateups for darkstarr!!!!

That patchme command worked fine for me. I've heard of it before but never had to use it and didn't recall how to do it.

Thank you, I'm gonna get my fix now.

Simply exit completely out of EQ, right click on the EQ Icon and click "Run as Administrator", and it should work fine. I assume you're on Vista?

Thank you for the tip about logging on as an administrator...is it only people running Vista who are having problems with the patcher?

This after the fact, but it was broke on XPPro also, and probably everything else. Finally found the work around in Sony chat sessions - but no input there from any of the admin folks.

Good news is that as of this morning the patcher is working - so guess they got it fixed.

Yeah "patchme" worked last night and then around 10:30 EST I was able to log in normally.

However since I had work in the morning most of my play time was gone so I logged right back out.

I am still unable to log on maybe it is because i play on the Test server but i have tried the patchme thing and have had no luck anyone know where i might find a post to tell me how to work around this problem?

"Thank you for the tip about logging on as an administrator...is it only people running Vista who are having problems with the patcher?"

I think the administrator problem with the patcher is mostly Vista users, though a poster here said Windows XP Pro was having the problem, too.

Another possible solution to a patcher problem that does not only affect Windows Vista users (I think,) is to go into your EQ folder and delete the "Legends of Norrath" folder. That is the card game and it has been known to cause patching problems, and the fix was to delete it and repatch it.

You guys seem to be experiencing known problems, so here's the Tech Support section of the SOE site: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/forums/show.m?forum_id=1

And here's the problem I think a lot of you are having (it's a sticky in the Tech Support section):http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=121996
