... offereing me three months free EQ and EQ2 to get me back into the game.

So i patch 18 months worth of data, spend hours trying to remember my password/login name etc..

I Even download a WoWclone Ui so i'm not totally confused as to where simple things like my bags are.

Finally i log in and spend 5 mins looking at each toon wondering which would be the best to start with after basicly 3 years of not playing (i didn't really play EQ much the last 18 months of my account time.) and so having spotted that my old main was in Bazaar, i logged her in.

And the client crashed.

Smiley: motz

Trying again now...

Enjoy whatever you move on to. I've been hearing good things about AoC.

I've never ever had a problem with EQ graphics and still don't!

I dont have a problem as such, but here let me illustrate my point...

Lord of the Rings Online

Age of Conan

Everquest.

Im not complaining. I loved EQ. It got me into mmo's. But i just couldn't see myself re-discovering the original fascination I had with Norrath, after seeing how far my expectations had moved on in respect to the eye-candy element of the game. I'm more of an explorer and chilled leveller type. I want to immerse myself in a world.

Runniing around PoK for a few minutes showed me that it doesn't look as good as I thought I remembered it.

I'd rather retain my memories of EQ as they are, rather than spend time comparing it to what has come along since.

As I say tho...have fun. Smiley: smile

Course those EQ pics are the old graphics, trolls don't look like that anymore ( or Iksars for that matter)

The AOC does look sweet... be interesting to see if it sticks.

It's not going to compare too favorably to a much newer game either way, but could you have possibly found an older screen shot of an older zone with the old models? Perhaps a frame of the Pre-alpha EQ video on youtube?

I last logged into EQ nearly 2 years ago. So that is how it looked when i quit.

I still remember some places that I saw for the first time that I stopped and stared at. That is what would be missing for me if I came back.

Early days yet. but from what i've experienced so far, it has HUGE potential. Theres a visceral feel to it, that is missing from all the other games I've tried. It has an 'edgy-ness' that apeals to me. They have managed to capture some of the barbarity and filth of the books. For example, a frontier barbarian settlement feels 'muddy'.

LoTRO is still a winner as well.

Anyway this is an EQ thread..I'll be off.

There is a screenshot of today's eq that is also at least in context with the other displayed game screenshots. Definitely not as stunning, but hardly the horror you make it out to be.

(Just because you remember it looking one way years ago doesnt mean it still has to look that way, not sure why a self admitted shallow person would choose to leave themselves only the option of the worse looking graphics in the game...)

Also...the luclin character models were around way before 2 years ago, but now im just nitpicking because I've nothing better to do =p

I'm not trying to make it out as a horror.

Its like when you have fantastic memories of a place you used to hang out as a kid. Then 30 years later you take your own kids to the treasured 'place', and when you get there, rather than finding a pool of crystal clear water, with willow trees and a rope-swing, you find a muddy puddle with a old shopping trolley and a tyre floating around in it.

Sometimes its better to keep the memories you have, rather than trying to ressurect the ones you think you have.

So if you got nothing better to do, go and kill Fippy for me, Nit-picker.

/Rockvoiceon.

Finally tarv has come back to Everquest.... and the millions and MILLIONS!! of tarvs fa... ok ok i'll stop that now.

The graphics do indeed stink, loading times are painful and i need to try and remember what the hell to do...

That said i got the chest slot item which was rather nice, i'm still in a guild although if i'm honest i don't remember anyone...

i'll no doubt have a blast for a month or so but i can't see me signing back up, maybe EQ2 since the graphics probably won't be THAT painful.

I'm with Paulsol on this one.

My affection for EQ, and my 1st ever toon, remains, but logging back in to reacquaint myself with old friends was very disappointing this week.

The core engine is extremely dated now, and after the near-realism of LoTRO, I couldn't find the immersion I used to find in Norrath.

My 1st girlfriend was gorgeous - freckles, blonde pigtails and a smile that melted me with a glance.

30 years on, she's probably saggy, wrinkly and unattractive.

I'll remember her as she was thanks.

Ditto EQ.

Or she's still not bad looking and has a mature look about her but she's got knowledge and tricks that will rock your world beyond belief. You won't need to worry what she looks like in the end because your eye's will be rolled back in their sockets. The experience alone is what you will remember and you would only need to look in the mirror at your perma-smile to understand why. /grin

heres the deal for me.

When i click on my WoW icon on my desktop, i am playing inside 3 minutes unless there is a patch, i timed it this afternoon, it took 13mins 20 sec to log in to a char...

Once there the graphics where awful, not bad absolutely awful, painful chair squirmingly awful... and the lag was worse than WoW, much worse as it happens and that was running through an empty Felwithe, not another toon in the entire zone.

I wasn't expecting 100's of people but i was expecting more than 3 people in PoK bank... So who am i going to relearn with? my guild long since booted my *** out, it appears none of my friends list play anymore if they even remember me and i have no idea where to hunt.

So i strongly suspect i will be returning to WoW fairly shortly...

i was nice to spend some Plat in bazaar though Smiley: grin but i fear the chances of me actually entering combat are slim.

I'm not planning on coming back at all. I just want a chance to talk to old friends and guildies that still play.

I'll probably mess around a little bit here and there and when the time is up, it's up.

You really don't need to wait for an email. Just go to the Living Legacy Website and click on the Everquest link, you should find the installer there.

If you are an ex-player, there should be no reason this promotion does not apply to you, even if you didn't receive an email. If you want to double check before downloading the game, go to EQ Players and click the My Account button on the top right of the page, log in and you should see that your account is active.

Yes, Now the POK banks are deserted ( for the most part) but the guild lobby had 75 people in it last night on Zek.

As for the loading times, with the new patcher, it takes all of 3 minutes 14 secs from icon to character screen for me.

I know how you feel about the games Tarv...I just never left EQ. The other games were like that pretty girl at the mall...she was fun to look at, but I always came back to the woman I know intimently...

That is why it is great that these new games ( AOC, WOW ) are so well done and popular, cause it leaves the best game around for meSmiley: grin

Hunt in the hotzones, check em out.
Zone into the lobby,PoK stopped being the hub of eq when buffs stopped ticking in the lobby.
You sure you aren't using old graphics?
even the luclin graphics look fine.
Go into advanced options and turn off shaders etc if your PC sucks.
Depending on your server, there should be guilds that will snag you.
Even on zek,I can sometimes find pickup groups. Cant be that hard on a server where everyone does not hate everyone/want to kill them.

When was EQ ever about graphics anyway? Maybe compaired to UO they were nice but Eq has never been cutting edge in the visuals department

The tagline for this event is Celebrate your hardcore heritage.

EQ has always and will always be about the adventure. Yeah, you can do the books in LoTRO and fight with Legolas but that is something everyone does and isnt very prestigous. EQ makes tasks and quests seem unique in that there is so much content that not everyone does the same quests. Also in the case of epics, some characters never do them. The rewards you earn in EQ feel like they are truly yours because of the time and effort invested in them.

No other game on the market can give you the raid experience like EQ. Every MMO has endgame content, but nothing near what EQ has. That kind of adventure can never be beaten, and quite frankly on game is likely to live as long and amass such a huge ammount of content like EQ has.

I've been having fun running around and seeing all the changes. Although, I was really hoping to see the Commonlands, Ro, etc the way I remembered it, not as the new version.

And I got lost in FP. Man, they really changed that place up.

My old guild is still active, and the guild leader is the same woman, but I don't know if I'll contact any of them.

My main is a cleric, so if I wanted to get in a group I'm guessing I could. But I can barely remember what my spells do, and I don't know how to get to any of the new places. I wish I *did* know more people on my server so I could at least get the feel of the game again without pissing off a group (if I ***** up).

Eh, it's free for 2 months. I'll putz around some and who knows - maybe I'll relearn it and have some fun.

Why should I play a game free for just 3 months using an close account, when I have paid $200 for a lifetime account account in LOTR:O and still have friends I made in my old guild going back to 1994 that play it.

Not that I log in that often in any on line game now, plus not having to not paying a monthly fee. Plus there is the fact that all my toons are in an active account that Jonwin pays for and moved to an other server then the one my first 3 guilds were on.

Then there is fact that he been leveling them and I don't know what spells he has gotten for Primrosex.
