Ranger Solo QuestionFollow

I have a 68 ranger and sometimes, I prefer to solo. Fear kiting has been good to me for quite a while but, as I get higher and higher in levels, the Panic Animal spell no longer works (I knew this would happen sooner or later). I am stuck with the "root and shoot" way of life now.

So, my question is, is there another spell similar to the "panic animal" spell rangers use? Is there maybe a panic animal potion?

I did check the ranger spell listings and item search but did not see anything.

Sorry, not that I know of either. Your gonna have to get used to root and shoot now, if you want to solo. A few recommendations: make sure you dont have any kind of Direct Damage aug on your bow, as it has the potential to bust root. At this level you can use the AA ensnare vice a spell, since it lasts longer. Lastly, I think at that level the elites at the WoS zoneline in NC are pretty good root and shoot exp.

Recently I was "shoot and scooting" in Icefall before moving to root and shoot. At 70 its slow but doable.

And when I say slow...I mean really slow....like the line at the DMV slow....

...including using the Burning Affliction tribute focus. Stacking 2-3 dots is way more effective when it is focused. And getting the first level of the DoT Crit AA isn't a bad idea either. Rangers were just recently given this AA. It's not worth filling, but having the ability to dot crit is worth the small amount of aa's it costs.

If you could post a magelo prolfile, it would help people determine your effective fighting level, and people could give some suggestions as to where a better solo spot might be. I know in my late 50's and early 60's I was doing the boats in Dulak's Harbor. And then I moved to Grieg's End in my mid to late 60's. GE was really good until the mid 70's, and then Veksar was really good to me. Another bonus of going into GE and Veksar is that the nameds drops some really good tribute items. It is not uncommon for me to hit up both zones, just going after the nameds that are actually up when I zone in, and going to the tribute master with 30k+ tribute points worth of gear.

If you REALLY want to root and shoot, or aren't comfortable meleeing yet, you could always do Vxed instances. They are one of the only instances in the game that can be requested solo. There are about 7 mobs up front that make really good root and shoot mobs. Just beware of the stonemites and (one other mob, sorry been a long time) that summon. If you get these mobs up front: zoneout, and go request another instance. The mobs up front will most likely change models to some that are more killable. Also do this if you get a nasty round of repops of all summoning mobs. Most of these mobs are also Harmony'able, but for the ones that aren't the snare/zone trick works (in fact, this is the zone where I learned how to use that technique).

Good luck in your up and coming levels/aa's. Check out EQOutrider.net for more comprehensive information for Rangers. It is the best ranger site out there. And I'm sure you could find lots of suggestions and advice just from reading the old threads.

Another place you might try is Bloodfields off Dranik Scar. When you zone in there are 4 dragorns up front, when you go thru that room you come to a long hallway. To one side is a room with 8-10, the other way is two rooms with more. I would stick with the 8-10 and front 4. There is usually no one in this zone on my server. (Cazic Thule) All the mobs can be harmonied. Just split them, this may take some practice to see what you need to do but the zone is close. The hallway is very long so there is lots of room to root and shoot and if root breaks you have plenty of room to re root before they get to you. I stayed in this zone to lvl 74 for solo and got fair aa and reg xp and also so good loot. I would average about 5kpp for every two or so hours. There may be better places but for uninterrupted mobs and fair loot not a bad place.

At level 68, Vxed / Tipt are very good xp spots if you can bear dropping the expedition and getting a new one when the stonemites become overwhelming.
The stonemites (and ukuns) will summon, so avoid at all costs, but the hynids (which all see invis) pookahs, cragbeasts and the rare noc are easily taken down with root shoot and dot.
Respawn is about 12 minutes.
Mobs have very little HP but do hit like locomotives.
The solo xp is very very good at 68.

I have to agree with the Vxed suggestions, it's a good solo spot for a ranger. I've been grinding there with my 65 ranger for a couple of levels, and I get about 2.5 - 3% regular xp per kill or 23% of an aa (that's taking the aa scaling into account, I was getting about 12% before the change to aa's I think). I'm assuming it would still be decent at 68.

Clicky ornate pants are a nice way to save mana on rooting. Hynids and pookas are what you'll be after, stonemites you want to stay away from, but they can easily be harmonied and pulled around. If you get a stonemite that can't be harmonied, just use snare to get a single. (Snare the mob you want, zone out, and when you come back in it will be standing still.)

I haven't tried Tipt yet, I'll have to check that out soon.
