Ok, I have a friend who is starting EQ, so to play with him, I went to the Tunare server and made a lvl 1 with him. ( all my toons on fennin ro are way high and I just didnt want to powerlvl and twink him silly, but rather learn him the game correctly).

I have an 11 gnome necro andd he has a 10 human sk (lol why idk). As such, there is no plat for gear and we plan on using what we loot, with the exception of plat for spells, buying nothing. IS there anywhere we could go, within our lvls that drops decent items for us. Like I said, gear will be what we loot and plat for spells will be from from vendor trash.

**note** Having played for years, every new character I ever made, was outfitted with what I could buy or had previously. It is a very different game when you "live of the land".

You can really do pretty well following the TSS zones and quests. After the tutorial hit up Crescent Reach, there are some easy quests that land you some decent rewards.

At 20 you can get the armor quests from Kimem Saydel, these quests will get you a full set of nice visible armor from drops in Blightfire Moors. Blightfire is a hotzone now and xp should be great as well.

At level 40, Scout Madu in Goru`Kar Mesa offers armor quests, and again you can get a nice set of armor as well as get some good xp while questing it.

Yep.You wont find much better gear than in the TSS expansion. You should be also hitting all the hot zones that you can handle. Each hotzone will have a zonewide armor drop plus a zonewide aug drop.If you look to the left under zones you will see "hotzones".You should page through the old hotzones and get the gear and augs from those too.Make sure to check out your old world city's for vender sold augs also.

I believe they have given you the best combination possible.

Follow the TSS "progression" up through your 40's and scout madu's quest. At the same time hit up each of the hotzones(present/past) to retrieve the additional pieces of gear/augs that are available.

Heck, most of my characters predate TSS but some have gotten a few pieces of their gear this way.

If you want to raise money from drops check out the price of spiderling silk in your bazaar. You maybe able to sell it quickly for a few plat.

At your current levels you can also do the Luclin-era newbie armor quests pretty easily in your home cities and surrounds areas. You get (in some cases) a pretty nice weapon with it too. All my toons not on Fennin Ro usually start with that. Then my melee chars usually save up some plat and buy the level 10 melee augs from the vendor that can be found in each home city too.

But yeah - as stated above, TSS progression is the best there is into your 40s.

If you are desperate for platinum now. zone into the tutorial and make sure you have the hotkey for open on your hotbar. Open all the barrels and loot the rations and bags to sell. Kill any staff-wielding Kobold (the jail area seems to be the best for drops).

This is all vendor made (instead of baz dependant) plat. An afternoon spent this way can give you a serious bankroll as a self-made lowbie character. Besides, its nice to buy your spells with.

To keep it fresh, take your friend to some different zones in between the TSS focusing (which really is the most efficent route to get levelled and equipped now):

10-15 (--for the experience and knowledge mostly)

Kurn's Tower for the hotzone drops, bone chips and fun of skeleton combat
Najena for some fun times and possible upgrades if you get lucky (but it goes much higher than level 15
The Warrens... just a great zone to learn in and useful faction hits

15-25

netherbian lair is worth it for the +1 regen augment alone (the negative stats are not a concern vs. the availability of regen at low levels in my mind)
King Xorbb's Gorge is a kiter's paradise in the correct level range, and your friend would gain an appreciation for the immensity of the old world (Karanas)

25-40

The Overthere start collecting your sarnak braids for the Worker's Sledemallet early (yes, many can gimp the quest but an sk can do it the old fashioned way).
Warslik's Woods and Dalnir have decent hotzone drops and some potentially useful factions (if you want Demi lich skullcap for the necro and greenmist for the SK)
Crystal caverns is worth getting good at killing in, since once the dwarves trust you it is a self-contained kill-loot-bank or sell zone. Also has decent drops and a good hotzone aug.
Gulf of Gunthak --one of my favourite levelling areas, many camps that range in difficulty and the named drops are decent for non-twinks.

40-50

Lower Guk --I wouldn't kill the good frogs in Upper unless certain you and your friend don't want to do quests there. Lower Guk has great drops and is solid xp. Untwinked you'll need to be careful how you approach it, but you might be ready to try it before 40. Certain drops remain valuable.
Dulak's Harbour --LoY spells quests for most require this zone, it has a good gem drop rate and new hotzone drops added in.
Natimbi -kiters can make a killing here in this range, just don't play with the named turtles. Some random zone drops here are nice too.

50-60 Lots of choices here, and by this point your friend isn't likely considered that new anymore. I would recommend hitting up Old Sebilis and Acrylia Caverns for sure.

Crescent Reach-Blightfire-Goru'Kar Mesa-Blackfeather covers 1-60 very nicely and has some amazing drops. XP seems fast in these zones and you make good vendor trash coin. When I am short 1k for an item in baz I run over to Goru'kar Mesa or Blackfeather for a quick grind, when I want a change of pace I travel the world.

It was great of the OP to join the friend on a new server.

While out doing armor tasks, try the Silverwing quest line that starts at 20 in Mistmore (earring). This gear is TSS level and goes through former hotzones so besides the item and shard for the previous item, there's also an augment. (The shard when merged with the item, increases the required level by 5.)

Silverwing was moved from CR to POK (near Guild Lobby entrance) to be easily reachable.

Zones are Mistmoore (20), Permafrost (25), Trakamon's Teeth (30), Warsliks Woods (35), Sawnshroud's Peak (40), Velk's Lab (45), The Deep (50), Temmple of ZDroga (55), Noble's Causeway (60) and Halls of Honor (65).

Just keep in mind that you guys aren't going to be quite as self-sufficient of a duo as some others, due to the fact that there isn't a large amount of healing. You're pretty much going to have to kite whatever you want to kill, unless you spend some time lfg each time you want to go hunt.

I agree with Paradox, your time spent fighting will be divided between selecting what to fight and actually fighting. If you two were to two-box and add a slower and a healer, then you could realistically take on most all content that is available for your lvls.

Cresent reach is good until about lvl 30 I think. You have a fairly good undead fighting team with an abundance of undead there.

If it is just the two of you, I would stay out of several of the zones mentioned above. Simply because of the mob selection and zone difficulty reguardless of it being a hot zone. The long run back to to WWoods and Dalnirs and Gorge make those zones inefficient because your exp bonus in a hot zone is divided between travel and recovery time.
