How does the PvP server operate?Follow

I have seen people talk about PvP here and there. Im not quite sure how the PvP server is different from other servers on here. I mean how does it make it a PvP server? Is it based off of Race, Diety? I have played games like WoW and understand that but how does it on here.

Thanks all

It has been many ways on EQ, but right now it is open pvp within 4 levels. If I am 40 I can fight players 36 to 44. Only on the one server, Zek.

Send a pm if you have any more questions.

Also on Zek there are 7 zones where PvP can not take place. PoK, Plane of Tranquility, Bazaar, Nexus, Guild Hall and Lobby and Shadowrest. If you are unfortunate to lose in PvP you are ported to Shadowrest with all your gear but with rez effects. When you leave there you go to your bind spot.
PvP occurs everywhere else and at anytime. Afk, LD, in an instant group, when you are low in life and fighting mobs, even people have been known to kill someone in their own guild. I have been ported and ganked while asking for a group buff.

Rules of PvP have change since their start a long time ago.. All you actually lose now is time (rez effects) your Opponent gains points to be spent on special equipment, only purchased with those points. You do not lose any items or plat. Some lame. Victorious players post in general chat how much points you were worth and the employment of your mother. This starts a childish rebuttal which last for usually about 5 minutes and accuses each other of hacking, or other dishonest ways to kill someone besides the PvPer just being a more experienced player.
Speaking of experience people have been know to delevel a toon 40 levels to take advantage of “No level required gear” that only can be achieved in a zone that has a level requirement just to take advantage of the newer player. The evil PvPer's hang out in newbie zones only to make victim’s Real life and game play miserable. I personally have a toon that has over 2 mil in gear, deleveled and twinked to the max, just to kill some virtual toon instead of beating my kids…LOL…Great stress reliever!
My Bazaar Trader “Armourcarr” made a small plat fortune selling twink gear to players just so they can survive this onslot. On Zek the player with the best toys wins.
Safe Travels on Zek and come visit Armourcarr located in the Red Emerald room of the Bazaar for all your PK needs.

PvP works like a mugger on the street. If you look at all like a challenge he will leave you alone. The PvP'er would rather prey on the small and weak. They will wait till you are done fighting a mob and half alive then pounce on you.Stuff like that.

I dont think that was the intention when the server was made.Disputes were to be solved by battle but it devolved into higher levels sitting outside noob areas for hours at a time ganking people over and over again.

My very first character was a human paladin on rallos zek (now just zek). I was such a noob - both human and paladin. No gear, no plat, no experience at playing, nothing.

I only played that toon for about two months from May to July of 2001, but a lot of things happened to me with that character that influenced my play later. The only real negative was all the ganking that was going on, and when it reached a point where I felt I was being singled out because of my weaknesses, I quit and deleted. He made it to about level 7.

Years later (about a year ago), older and wiser, I created a new character on Zek that I felt would give me a maximum of strengths and a minimum of weaknesses for a poorly geared character - an Iksar Necro. I only have him to level 24, but I often entertain the thought of playing him...then I get too busy doing other things. One interesting thing about modern-day zek - people seem to like you more if you help folks out than if you're some bad@ss, twinked-out character killer. Seems that even on zek, no one likes a bully.

Anyway, my necro has lost a lot of fights, but he's won some too. It's much easier for me to deal with the losses now, because I no longer lose plat or gear - just bragging rights. And yes, it does get the heart rate up when I'm playing compared to a blue server.

all in all, playing on Zek is fun, but you have to keep an open mind with regard to your place in the world (you're a target to both players and mobs), that experience trumps gear, gear trumps newbieness, and most important, that it's just a game. Don't take it too seriously. I think that was the mistake I made last time, although I must admit the gear and plat losses were unbearable (6 plat, *and* my banded armor leggings! Nooo!) I also strongly advise that you play a character class that is as self-sufficient as possible, as the bazaar on zek is pretty picked-over.

So just have a casual attitude while you're there and you should be fine.
