stuck between classesFollow

Since I am going to mont a coming to eq i was doing some research and wanted to get some advice on which class i should choose. I am stuck between a necro or a druid. I chose these two classes so i could get a feel for the game again
and solo so i wouldn't be a risk to a group playing cleric or pally. If you could leave some input i would appericate it.

Druid would give you more options, healing especially, and solo very well, but necros are better solo machines because of their incredible dps.
Personally I would go with a druid, my alt is 72 and I enjoy every minute of it, whether soloing or being main healer for a group.

Don is correct overall. Necros are more pure DPS and slightly ( IMHO) better soloers. Druids have more versality in what they can do and solo well.

Necros are the ultimate loners, and can function very efficiently at 100% independence. They can also be valuable to groups and the like, though some group setups and situations leave them unable to get as much use out of their abilities.

Druids are a more even spread and are pretty talented at being a "Jack of all trades". A well played druid can fill multiple roles in group situations and do a good job of it. They are far from slouches on the solo side as well.

druids :
-Port every where. faster travel spells. = more hunting time
-quad kiting, , i think necros can do that too. but druids have root and snare. plus evac if things get hairy
-heals work faster then life drains in long run
-animal temp pets

been 8 months since i played. but i also have 6 accounts and 2-3-4 and 6 box the accounts every class. necros and a druid dots the hell out of the mobs quick kills

1-50 necro is hard to beat for soloability and lack of need for gear. What I mean is you can have very sad gear and still xp well on a necro. Some people consider pet classes harder but you say you are a returning player so it shouldn't matter?

I suggest using your 8 character slots and testdriving every combo you think you might like. If you stick to the new zones (Crescent Reach and Blightfire Moors) and/or hotzones you will have multiple level 40s characters very quickly.

I find I have to get to level 25 just to have a flavor for whether I would like a class or not and into the 50s to get a sense of how it will be amongst others (you can solo most classes pretty effiently to 50 nowadays, but I see alot of characters getting bogged down 55-65).

Welcome back and enjoy whatever you decide.

i failed to mention that i have a 51 cleric and 38 pally from when i used to play, but didnt want to be a lilablity playing them in a group. So that when i had started to think that creating a new character to solo with would be a great ideal so i could get a feel for the game again.

With ward of the divine https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=6902

Skinspike potions and the really nice quested armor from Goru'kar Mesa (required level 45) your cleric would do rather well.

I soloed my new cleric to 51 in a decent time (just been sitting around for my guild's Naggy team since).

Higher level clerics can solo quite well now from what I have been told.

I do agree with playing some alts to get back into the game though, I just wouldn't discount your cleric if you liked playing the character.

Cleric dont solo well. I played a cleric for a long long time and it get really old hitting the heal button over and over. With a Druid he could steal heal and have the option to solo.

If you plan on getting into the raiding game at some point and you enjoy the cleric class, I'd go with him as others have said. Necro, pally, druids are much more common and there's limited room for the class in most raiding guilds. Can almost never have too many clerics though.

I disagree about soloing with a cleric. It's fairly effective against undead, their hot's, pets, proc hammer, reverse damage shields, nukes and dot's make them pretty effective.

I realize it's not as quick as a necro/druid but it's possible and better than a lot of other classes. OOC regen takes care of the downtime.

Rosleck, have you played a cleric since TSS with vow of valor and promised renewal? It adds some fun, I got a time lapse weapon with a proc aug and vow rk 2 and just use promised for healing and melee the hell out of everything. It lands 2k crit procs that have a 2k HoT recourse and with yaulp going the cleric does some fun things. There's also new AAs that can proc group heals when you stun things, clerics are a lot more appealing than just one button wonders now.

A friend of mine. after I came back to EQ after a break, would group with me when he wasent raiding. Long ago when he was a new Cleric and I was the vet I helped him out as I could. I watched him solo useing the tools you described and was impressed. I didnt have much luck with it. At 76 I tryed to solo greens and failed dramaticly at it.

I think I am a bit under geared for my level and I should of given it another shot. In fact I may go out and give it another twirl soon. I miss playing him as he was my main for a long time, but I have no desire to raid any longer and that seems to be all he does when on.

Personally, I'm partial to Druids. I played the Druid class from the beginning of my EverQuest career, seeping into my short WoW career (how very short and sweet THAT was.. lol) but Druids I find are really fun to play, and its easier to get around that most other classes with ports/sow. Though...nowadays druids are basically out of a job unless they're porting to newer locations. the old world business was slaughtered by the PoP Expansion with its POK Business...
