Casting Harmony (ranger or druid) on a player will give that player more mana regen.

A once-upon-a-time legend that eventually came true - Enchanter Spell Illusion: Scaled Wolf.

Not really an urban legend, just a spell that took quite a while to make it into the live game. The devs had included spell data regarding this long before they made the spell available. People going through EQ data files found reference to it and it became something of an Enchanter urban legend until SOE finally made the spell available in game after finally deciding on how the spell would work.

Can we make up new stuff to hopefully become urban legends?

Once every game day (72 minutes) you can enter the "Konami Code" (UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A) to restore your Endurance meter.

Lol. I still vividly remember the press release talking about how the new graphics (SoL release I think?) would allow you to stand there with your cape "flapping in the breeze". Hah. They still haven't done that.

The cape thing was born of some slight reality. It was in the original SOL plans but was one of the first things scrapped due to game engine limitations.

The only reference I could find was an old Mobhunter article which discusses an offical Verant posting no longer available.

Speaking of, remember that old concept art of the new gnome model? Impossible to find online!

Fungi tunics becoming no-drop was the biggest one I remember from Kunark days... Lotsa people capitalised on that little rumour.

The Megaladon always existed. It just had some uhh, pathing issues, that they had to work out. It was definately there in beta.

This is definately the Rathe 'Sea Monster', and how the rumor got started.

Gives a new meaning to the term 'flying fish'.

Years ago I remember hearing that if you
held tradeskill guidebooks (i.e. blacksmithing,
tailoring, etc.) in your hand while doing
the trade skill you would suffer fewer failures
and skillup faster.

One problem with your "flying fish" image...

Its a Great White Shark like image, while the Megaladon
image posted on another reply here it has the image
of a Hammerhead shark.
Did they change the image with the AM begin altered, or
is this a screen shot of a lesser shark?

The hammer head shark pictured in this thread is part of the shaman epic 1.5 quest, added in with the Omens of War expansion. The quest shark is not always up, but rather only when a shaman at the right step of the quest turns in the appropriate item to the female barbarian NPC nearby.

Regarding the Flying fish image...

I played from Beta2 to Kunark, then quit, just very recently returning for a bit.

That screen cap was taken in Beta (as you can tell by the resolution, and graphics). That was definately the 'Megaladon' from Beta, I don't recall if the pic was from Beta 2 or 3 though. I have no idea what he is now (regarding his model, as it is my understanding he is part of the Shammy 1.5 Epic.

I know the Megaladon was pulled out somewhere around Beta3, because of his pathing issues. It is hard to tell from that picture, however he was very big, kind of like Sand Giant sized (but on his side.)

The next time your sitting around to do another "Dain's" mision, Look in the book on the table. You'll see a picture or one of the people that made the game.

A full set of black iron armor from old runnyeye would make you immune to non magic based attacks.

Rain increased mana regen.

Tradeskill made +Dex jewelry was better then +HP jewelry for melee.

Opening the door in HoT would agro mobs into if you were fighting in area near door.

I remember when I started playing EQ again after a long time of not playing. my friend told me that the shared bank was for players who had something they didn't want, they could put it in the shared bank and anyone banking would see it and could take it. I spent about 30 minutes every time i logged in at the bank hoping someone would ditch something nice. During this time when i needed to move stuff between characters i still did the old put in bag find an empty room and drop it. then log out and log on the other character to collect the bag. about two weeks later frustrated i mentioned to my friend that i have still never once seen an item in the shared bank. my only consolation to his joke was his reaction of shooting soda out his nose as he laughed.

that /q brings up quests.

That Everquest downtime for patches will be done by the scheduled finish time.

edit:added another urban legend and didn't feel like creating a new post for it.

That killing the Bixies in the Commonlands spawned
Griffins, which at the time (early '99) was a serious
threat to everyone grouping in the zone.

Maybe they were ph for the griffs? I don't know for
sure, but I remember hearing about it when I killed
the poor little guys in bee suits.

typing /experience would show your experince in numbers.... I did this one in LOIO a few times, would get zone wide LD's and pretty much open up half the camps.

I remember hearing that by killing the bixies, you could get the wisps to spawn so that you could hopefully get a greater lightstone and a whopping 9pp, woohoo, rich times :)

There was one (and one in Highkeep) but both have been disabled for years. Just as well, the typical message was:

And other intellectually glorious things.

Used to hear that several zones were "preconditioned" to link to new zones in the future. They never panned out though:

1. The Hole = possible zone-out (to Plane of Mischief?) at the very bottom. I've heard this one a great number of times.

2. Shadowhaven = zone-out (in the caster area) to some unnamed high-level zone, supposedly this zone had something to do with the dark history of Shadowhaven, according to the lore the NPC's told me. When Zirumkin stands up against this door and casts Eye of Zomm, the scouting eye actually appears on the other side of the door (heh, it's a gnome thing) - but the second after I send my "eye" down the passage, the eye stops working.

3. Shadeweaver's Thicket = zone-out to some high-level fire-related zone out by the Firehopper's (?) area. There's even a fire elemental guardian in front of the passage that dead-ends, completely submerged in lava.

4. Gulf of Gunthak = there is a passage in the water that is blocked by a large iron gate - I've heard a few say over the years that this was supposed to be a - what else? - a zone-out to another part of Ykesha. Would kinda make sense because Ykesha only has about 7 zones. Perhaps the designers intended for this expansion to be larger originally?

No doubt other folks will notice other zones that seem to have been destined for future zone-links that never were.
