My friends and I were convinced that Holly Windstalker would kill you if she caught you with grizzly pelts in your inventory. We made many quick runs to South Qeynos avoiding Holly to turn in rabid grizzly pelts for plat and exp. If nothing else, it made it exciting.
She will attack you if she sees you actually fighting bears though. Oddly, this applies even to the diseased bears. Which is probably where you guys got the idea.
I've always liked the myth that short people run faster. Some players continued to insist this for years because it felt like you were going faster if you were lower to the ground.
A lot of the myths were based on events that occurred during beta or very early in the game. Various sea monsters and rare triggered spawns were believed to be in the game either because some dev mentioned it as something planned (but never implemented), or because there was some one time event that had the mob(s).
Another thing that added to the myths was the sheer number of items in the game that ended up having no purpose at all. They were originally intended for some quest or tradeskill, but it wasn't implemented, but the item was still left in the drop tables. The Plains Pebble was a classic example of this.
Other myths revolved around getting various mobs to spawn. The "tricks" for spawning Pzin in QH were all over the map (literally). The reality was that she was just a rare spawn and so you were unlikely to get her. I also remember some named mob in S. Karana for some shield quest. Never did get that guy to spawn...
AGI affecting runspeed myth was based on logical observation. If you were overloaded, you ran slower *and* your agility decreased. This lead some to assume that agi affected runspeed. It didn't. It did slightly affect AC though, but not significantly if you had 75 or higher.
Anti-camp radius was born out of sheer frustration at some camps. That and the fact that it seemed (and still does) that mobs will spawn and respawn over time, but once a named spawns in place of a PH, it'll stay there (unless the server resets). This causes the casual player to observe that it's not uncommon for named mobs to be up when they first arrive in a zone (especially if it's been empty for awhile), but that those same named don't seem to spawn much when they're actively camping them.
There were lots of theories about the clock tower in Qeynos IIRC. It was clickable, but didn't do anything. IIRC, there was also some lamp or other in Ak'Anon that you could click but also didn't do anything. People had a lot more time to sit and ponder strange things in the game back then I think...
Some mobs were so rare that they seemed like they were myths. I have a screenshot somewhere of me fighting the dunedigger in N. Ro. Incredibly rare spawn. The Terrorantula was also super rare. IIRC, there was a period of time when it was dropped off the spawn table, adding to the myth.
Hmmm... Lots of myths back in the day. Can't remember half of them honestly...
