Casual PlayingFollow

Hey, I played EQ for about a year before DOD and a while after then quit. The reason I quit is I am a casual player and never seemed to get anything done while I was online. I loved the game for the most part but it seemed to be built for hardcore raiding and people with no lives.
I would spend more time looking for a group or regaining my mana pool than playing most of the time. So, my question is has EQ become more friendly to casual players. I have been playing WoW and like it, but it just isn't what EQ was. If I came back I would want to be more self sufficient and not completely dependant on finding groups or being in a guild. Also, can you reactivate your old account if you can't remember your password?
Thank you for your time.

P.S. I read the returning players post but still had these basic questions

You can try to recativate your account but it would take a call to Sony's customer service department. You'd likely need the credit card number that you opened the account with.

They've made a lot of stuff easier, the tutorial will give you really decent gear, low level quests in TSS will allow you to upgrade that gear pretty much into your 40's then you'll hit a dead spot where it won't be quite as easy to get upgrades by yourself.

Man/hp regen is not an issue anymore. 30 seconds after killing a mob you go into Out of Combat (OOC) regen where you essentially regen 3% of your mana/hp per tick. So OOM to full in 3 minutes no matte the size of your mana/hp pool.

Also there are plenty of casual guilds out there that don't raid or put many demands on players.

LFG is always going to be a point of issue. I've found that it helps to find a group of players with pretty similar playtimes and hang around with them. You can accomplish alot if you plan ahead and set up your groups goals a few days in advance.

GL to you, WB!

I actually has the same problem as you, I could never find a group. I came back about two weeks ago and found that finding a group was easier than before. I just head into a hot zone and always seem to find a group. For example, for the past 4 straight days I have found a group in BoT without any problem.

I will conceed that this might only be at my present level, which is 64. I have not tested this theory on my lower level alts.

Are you still as dependant on grping or can you casually play by yourself and make some progress. I am not against grouping, I actually enjoy it but I want to have other options.

It depends on your gear/class. For the most part if you have decent bazaar gear you can solo with most any class somewhat efficiently.

What class/lvl were you when you quit?

If you still have the same email address that you had when you signed up I think there is a password recovery feature that will reset or send your current password to the email account you used to set up your eq account with.

I had a 61 ranger and a 54 druid when I quit. The ranger had his first epic and they both had decent bazaar gear.

Most any class can solo pretty efficiently into the 50's as the gear you'll have access to is much higher stats what the old lower-level content was designed for.

If you want to continue to be able to solo up til level cap, then raise up a soloing type toon (nec, druid, mage, wiz, bl).

You can get groups pre-70 in the hot zones - but likely only the hot zones.

Once you get beyond 65/70 there are plenty of grouping opportunities, but plan on spending time waiting on the right group composition for whatever content you plan on tackling. Though, kiting groups are common these days and don't have all the requirements of a normal group (tank, healer, cc, etc).

For the best opportunites finding groups, join an active guild. For real 'casual' play I'd have a soloing toon or a duo partner (or two/three-box as MANY people in EQ do).

You should be able to solo with both the ranger and the druid. You will have to do some research though, and make sure what you are hunting doesnt summon, etc. Lots of good zones for root and shoot, or kiting. The Omens of War zones come to mind right off the bat. So are the Serpent Spine zones. The Buried Sea Zones (once you get a little higher in level) are great as well, especially The Buried Sea zone. I would group though. You just cant beat the efficiency of a good group when it comes to experience. You will also have no problem getting into a guild. I see /shouts or /oocs for recruitment all the time. Once in a guild, it would become much easier to get a group. Doesnt have to be a hard core raiding guild. If grouping just isnt you thing, you might want to consider running two accounts at the same time, and 2 boxing. It will cost you more, but its just money.

Get the potions of Skinspikes in the bazaar.

Skinspike is a good damage shield that stacks w/ druid DS.

W/ ooc (out of combat) medding, you get your mana and health back fast. Downtime has been dramatically slashed.

If you can't find a group in the hotzone (look < right < for a link to where the hotzones are), try killing light blues in a hotzone. You get an exp bonus in any hotzone, provided the mobs are at least green - but green gives you very little exp. Light blue in a hotzone = safe to kill and decent exp. If you can kill dark blues, even better, in a hotzone.

You can also buy clarity potions from a merch in the west trade bldg in pok or in baz, to get back mana even faster. Or check the tribute system.

Yes skinspikes will stack with druid ds, but the ranger long term ds buff, the riftwind line, will block them. Still I do use the druid spikes and potions when i duo the druid paladin.

If you dont want to be dependant on groups maybe consider getting another account and 2 boxing.I run both of mine on one PC.Just need like 2 gigs of RAM is all.So when you cant find a group all you need to do is log your other account on and go get something done.

Same issue as Boom, so I got a second account and run both from the same computer. I only have 1g of RAM and have very little issues. However, I cannot run anything but the 2 sessions so I would recommend 2g. I box 80 percent of the time now and love it. I can catch up on AA's without feeling useless to groups hehe. It's worked well and does what it's intended to do... entertain me.
