Thinking about returning, advise pleaseFollow

Hello to all that read my post.

I started playing EQ right after Velious was released. I quit playing EQ about 5 years later to play the juggernaut now known as WoW. "WoW" is releasing a "new" class to the game, a bard, in their upcoming expansion. It plays just like guitar hero but in an MMO. I can only take so much stupidity in a game. They want to make a bard class? Fine. They want to put a fret board with gems floating by while you play the class? ....I'm outta here. /endrant

Sorry about all that nonsense, I'll get to the meat and potatoes now. I really want to return to a game that's truly a fantasy MMO. I still have my old account information and if I'm lucky I'll still have my toons. I'm not worried about that though. What I'd like to know, is EQ still a decent if not solid fantasy MMO that one can play solo/grouped? IF I return I'd probably start from scratch just to get a feel for the game again.

The question, "is it a serious MMO", is on the tip of my tung but to ask if a game is "serious" or not seems a bit odd. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You should still have your toons,

There have been a ton of enhancments to the game, that will make catching up easier.

Additionally, there is a "Returning players" thread stickied at the top with tons of information for you.

Do people not read the whole news? Do they read the headlines and start looking for a new game? Blizzard put a lot of work (to much imo) into that gag....Enjoy! Laugh! Snarl at them for being so silly....then go and play EQ, cause it's a JOKE....and SOE has no funny bone whatsoever.

(That's sarcasm! See the difference?)

Okay....so I feel like a major goob for my original post. It was fired off in the heat of the moment.

I'm usually quicker then that. SEE, WoW has rotted my brain. I need to go hang with the High Elves and get my sense of intellect back. =)

(does that redeem me at least partially?) ;)

Sure, also you're redeemed cuz you were brave enough to post again, and not just slap off your puter in disgust! Heheheh.

It's pretty darn funny - "this one goes to eleven!"

'This one goes to eleven' is a quote from a spoof movie called Spinal Tap about a (fake) heavy rock band with... wavering intellectual prowess. When interviewed by a journalist, one band member proudly shows off his guitar amplifier, and explains how the volume control on ordinary amps only go to 10, while his is custom made and, well, "this one goes to ELEVEN!"

Golden movie. Funny anyone in WoW have even seen that, I thought Blizzard fired people when they reached puberty *grins*

Heck no. Their cultural references are amazing and are not all "current."

Granted, original EQ had a bunch of funny cultural puns and whatnots (and still does), but WoW takes that lead and amplifies it to staggering proportions. There are hidden and not so hidden gags in MANY of their quests, NPC names and so on.

There is a lot to like about WoW, but after trying it for a long while, I'm back w/ this game. I think OOC medding was what I needed to make EQ "work."
