2-Box helpFollow

#1 Feb 29 2008 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, so we all know that everyone out there multi-boxes these days. I am no exception. However, I am a returning player from 2004 and am having trouble Multiboxing. EQwindows has not been updated since the dark ages, and when I try to just run multiple EverQuest games, I get an error every time I pull up the second one, which is in a different directory on a DIFFERENT HARD DRIVE!

So what am I doing wrong? How can I 2-box (or more-boxing) with the current EQ? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you,

Did you download all of the patches?

How much RAM do you have?

How is your video card?

Have you tried running two instances from the same hard drive?

I use WinEQ2. I dont have any problems at all. I have only one EQ installed on my comp. It has 2 gig Ram, and a 3.2 gig dual core. My vidcard is a 256 meg ATI card. I usually just do two accounts at one time, but have done 3. When I did three, it got a little laggy, ermmmm, make that pretty laggy, but still doable. When I was having problems, it was the amount of ram I had.

wineq ftw. I can 3 box in newer zones and 4 box in the older ones. It is still supported and updated and not expensive.

I use winEQ also, no problems other than lag from so much going on at once.

Help me out here . . .

I two-box on my computer. It's 2.4gHz, duo core, 2G RAM with a pretty decent video card. I made the display screens for each toon smaller than the actual size of the window and have them overlapping so that I can see part of each screen at the same time.

When I tried boxing with full-screen, non-windows, and alt-tabbing between the two, it was a nightmare. Serious lag issues and so much delay between the two toons it was hurting me. With the smaller windows the alt-tab is almost instantaneous and there is never any lag--unless I'm trying to autofollow, and then forget it.

Anyway, what I want to know is what winEQ means. Is that when you have the full-screen version of EQ without any windows borders?

WinEQ is a program you can run to help with boxing. It improves performance and makes switching between different instances of EQ fast and easy.

You can get a version of it for free, I use it and it works fine. You can also pay for a membership, not sure on price but don't think it's too expensive. The payed version gives some bells and whistles (such as Picture in Picture I think?). I don't use the premium version so I'm not exactly sure of what's included.

In a nut shell yes. It runs very very smooth and is not expensive. IIRC It cost me under $40 for a year.

It also works with other games as well like wow, eq2 ect..

Here is the website for the program. Membership runs $10 for 90 days and $36 for 1 year.

There is something else wrong here.

I 3 box on a 5 year old PC with a Geforce 6600 2gb ram AMD 2.0ghz and no winEQ.

I box all 3 accounts from the same eq.exe in one directory just alt tabbing. You should be able to do it.

What exact error do you get?

I have my two instances windowed. When I want to switch between the two, I simply click on the tab of the instance at the bottom of the screen. I actually log on the first instance regularly using the EQ icon. The second instance I use WinEQ. On the bottom of the screen (just cant remember the name of that stupid part of the screen right now) the two instances have very different names, so its easy to see which is which.

hmm i never installed eq a 2nd time. i run 6 eq instances at the same time with 4gb ram quad core and 8800 756mb vid card. only issue is having graphic setting low to mid range. but the game works fine. i stoped using wineq 2 yrs ago.

so only reason i can see if boxing doesn't work is computer hardware. or if on vista make sure admin setting are on.

and if vid car lower then 512 mb setting need to be lower to. ram 1 gb is great for 2-3 box ,2gb 3-4 box .

Darn it, forgot to say, that maybe you should try to run both instances from one set of files. Mmmmm, uninstall the second set of files from the second hard drive? I dont know enough about this stuff to say that will work for sure though. Hopefully someone more informed will correct me if I am wrong before you go and do something stupid on my say so.
