Best Dueling ClassFollow

I have wondered what class would be the best if you wanted to duel a lot or grow up on a PvP server. I know that gear and AA's would count for a lot, but leaving all that aside does any class stand out in this department?

SK's and Zerkers come to mind right away, but I have no personal experiance with dueling and would appreciate any views you have.

Thanks

The hybrids strike me as more powerful than any other classes on the PvP server... here's my take on each class:

Beastlords: Pet DD while the beastlord debuffs and DoTs. All in all, the only bad thing about them is lack of a snare. Self-heals aren't large, but you can play pet cleric (and with the AA, you can have your pet snare the target and kite while your target beats them).

Berserker: I'm really not sure how their ranged dps holds up to a Ranger's, but Berserkers also get nifty skills using their axes. Stuns, snares, decent defense, and good offensive melee dps... with the Intimidation skill, you might even be able to reverse-kite players. Not sure.

Cleric: Decent against the low-damage, fast-hit classes. Stuns are one of the only problems. Basically, dual-wielders get screwed over by the cleric's repertoire of defensive "procs"... Ward of... spells. With the right aas, and decent gear, I think that a cleric would be good in PvP.

Paladin: Stuns, self-heals, and a 2-hander (or one-hander and a shield if facing a caster, for bashes), plus the ability to root, good hp, etc...

Rangers: Self-heals, fast melee dps (kinda a bad thing... any dual-wielders are going to have issues against damage shields and the cleric Ward line), decent ranged dps, snares, debuffs, DoTs.

SK: Taps, snares, DoTs... same weaponry as the Paladin (2h or 1h and a shield for bashing casters).

Necro: Taps, snares, nukes, DoTs, and pets. Plus Fear. And Fear is good.

Enchanter: I think Enchanters can mana drain, can't they? Good against other casters. Rune, debuffs (slow), and crowd control would be decent against melee classes.

Magician: Nuke the hell out of something while your pet wails on it. Use the air pet for stun procs.

Wizard: Snare/root and nuke the hell out of it =p

Shaman: Debuff, DoT, sic your pet.

Druid: Debuff, root-rot, or kite.

Warrior: Kinda gimped, imo... no spells for healing/debuffing/etc... good armor class (good against meleers) and hitpoints... good sv magic... but other than that, I'd say they're -very- gear dependant.

Monk: High dps... bad against damage shields, imo... relies on gear, same as a warrior.

Rogue: Poisons are the fallback for the rogue, to separate it from other melee classes. Gotta learn to strafe-turn to stay behind the opponent.

Bard: Decent melee dps (no double attack until 71, though), nuke/debuff/dot/damage shield/snare/charm/mez songs. Jack of all trades, I'd assume they're very good in PvP.

My two cents.

While I have never played much on a PVP server, here are my thoughts...

Depending on the circumstances, a bard is godly in a duel where you can either train the opponent (via fade) or charm mobs to attack the adversary. This really matters where you are fighting though. In GFay this is irrelevant. In Wall of Slaughter, it begins to make a difference.

Bards also have Psalm of Veeshan to max resists and cause any caster class a major headache. Add that to the unmatchable run speed and your dueling partners will call foul. Some duels will be veeeeeery long, but at worst, you should draw.

My second choice as a powerful dueler would be the almighty Shadowknights. These guys have a huge bag of nasty tricks to use. Besides the aforementioned train tactic with feign death, SK's have huge 2h weapons to beat on you with, life-taps (stealing your life and healing themselves simultaneously), snare, so-so dots, and the life-ending harm touch. These guys and gals are just nasty!! They tend to have the highest AC of any class too, so good luck meleeing them.

I would really like to hear some more thoughts on the matter from some on Zek or whomever might have more experience dueling than me!

Got to go now. There are noobs to train lol.

P.S. Don't duel a Paladin or Cleric ever. They won't die! Just train the whole zone on top of them... And when they survive that, maybe you can melee them down. Heh heh.

Bards get double attack wayyyyy before 71. It's Beastlords that are double attack impaired.

My druid does pretty good in duels but she got her shapely lil wood-elf *** handed to her good by an SK.

I vote SK.

Bards get DOUBLE attack at 71... dual wield at 17. At least, the last time I visited a bard trainer (when TSS was released), it was still a level 71 skill, but it could be attained through AAs before then.

I've never met a class i cant hold in PvP for a while, i've once duelled another pally for over an hour

Pal god spells-despell and WoT.

Stuns count for nothing in PvP, However our heals, HoT, procs, and AA's allow us to be one of the best PvP classes.

Heres an example that would hold any class.

1. Despell and laugh and your target drops ~4-5k hp and ~100AC.
2. Our HoT spells 600/tick + AA HoT crits
3. Heals (i heal for roughly 5k without crits due to focus)
4. WoT i love this spell, the sheer horror on someones face as they see WoT healing you constantly

The worst person i ever duelled was a ranger, his knock-back was incredible, i count cast a thing. IMO rangers are second to none in PvP.
Sks are over rated in PvP. they need life taps to hit in order to heal, with high resists, bye bye SK

For 1 on 1 pvp.

Sks,rangers, zerkers, druid, bard, rogue, monk, cleric (yes clerics can destroy melees) on pvp servers wizard, but on blue servers they cant instanuke,so im not sure. Necros can be pretty deadly if they get the sof dots past your buffs (they have an unresistable pzn dot,and splort,as well as many others)

Any class can be great in pvp depending on the class they are trying to kill, and skill with your class. Knowing other classes also gives you an edge.

Best overall,id say is sks,rangers,zerkers,monk,druid,rogue.
(rogues are insane after sof.

On saying that sks are overated, you have never dueled an sk who knew how to play.
Real sks won't tap YOU generally speaking, other then with procs. Last breath=mana free 1700-3400 heal every so often. epic, heal pots. on top of DoTs,joust dps,and DT. and manadrain bow makes pallies bow before us (as well as rangers)

A good ranger, can be insane. Windstriker proc+HoA=jesus. As well as being able to proc bow of shadows, snare, heal, nuke, dot, self heals, dps, buff only random pell+pell pots=no buffs, discs. Deadfall is also sadface for most classes.

In PVP no smart player will fight your pet while you sit back and cast on them, most likely they will focus on the player, especially a mage. However, I think a mage would do fairly well PVP with their temporary pet (if they can channel through the fight to cast it) and the temporary DS.
A high level SK actually gets two harm touches btw, one is straight DD, the other one is a lifetap harm touch. On blue servers Vow of Valor does not work against PCs, so clerics lose a lot of their damage / self healing potential with that spell. I think I would have to go with SK, the 78 sk pet hits for over 200 unbuffed and quads a lot, throw some weapons and buffs on it and it will do a good chunk of damage.

If you were to start a toon on PvP server to duel, a good one to start with and level up some, what would it be?

What's good at lower levels, mid levels, etc...why?

Don't start at all? Zek sucks, sadly.

Pvp on zek is dead at low levels, other then level 20 twinks with 100 hp gear.

Almost any class can do well below 50 save maybe enchanters.

[:twocents:}
Having been on a zek since 99 ( Vallon before Zek ), I have to say that Druids and necro's are probably the best...unless you have your vet aa reward up and then they cannot land anything.Smiley: wink

My cleric has beaten zerkers and sk's, but twice have been owned by Necro's.

Clerics can be tough, but they do not kill fast...

My warrior was tooled by a druid ( hence my respect for them,E Smiley: sly)

Not sure if that helped at all...
