Question about shamansFollow

I play a mage as my main, but I recently dusted off my 65 shaman. I started doing some shopping to upgrade shaman's gear and I ran into something I was unsure off. For a shaman is HP or mana more important? On mage of course mana is king, but shaman has canni so more HP means i can canni more. I would still think mana is king, but I did read something somewhere that suggested HP was more important. Any input would be much appriciated! Thank you.

The answer to this will vary from shammy to shammy. Personally I prefer the extra HP because you can convert it to mana plus you can take a few hits. IMHO AC is more important than HP.

Shaman as a class have more HP and better mitigation than pure casters, and their chain armor offers a great deal more protection than silk. Their survivability is less dependant on gear based HP, but of course you can never discount extra HP as irellevant. Shaman are better equipped to take damage, but then they need to be since slows generate a lot of agro.

For upgrading gear, I would recommend considering mana slightly more important than HP. You will always want to try to boost both stats but it's really a personal preference as to how much priority you place on HP. If you find you are having no problems with mana then you may be inclined to swap out gear for more HP.

As a troll shaman I put slightly more weight into looking for manna. The reason being that while canni gives us manna, it is a spell action to cast it. I would rather already have the manna and cast a spell that will do damage, heal or otherwise help the party.

At level 65, most of the gear that you should be going after should offer a good balance between HP and mana. This should take care of most of your slots.

There might be a few slots that you can go either HP or mana. I would go with the higher AC that gives HP. As a shaman, you are going to get hit. Dead with a full bar of mana if not that great.

I should have stated this when I first asked, but a main reason I ask is that I will be buying augs for most my gear from DoN vendors and I have to pick between HP or mana augs. Thanks for all the responses so far.

ahh. that's a personal choice. many shamans like to have the mana so that they don't have to canni as often. others will take the extra HP for the times when they get hammered... when you're in a good group with a good tank the mana is usually better, but if your tank can't keep aggro off of you then you'll need the HP. like i said before it's one of those things that many shamans disagree on and it really depends on your personal preference/play style.

Don't bother with DoN HP or Mana augs. They are very slot restricted and only have one stat each. There are questable and hotzone droppable augs much better now. Check out bbot's post for a nice list of augs with multiple stats that fit in far more slots.

I second brown bears statement. However there are some augs that add to a bunch of stats or saves. Shop well.

If you plan on farming for your alchemy you might want to head over to Old Seb...there's a pretty good aug that drops there called heart of stone or something of the sort.
