I've been off mmo's for a long time, of course eq was my first, and i played for years. I'm deployed right now and have more down time than usual which has got me thinking id rlly like to get back into something. I played around with wow back in the day but like everyone who played eq as there first mmo, and played for real knows for some reason nothing compares. I played up until ldon after ldon i had enlisted and have been in the army since. I want to know what servers are full of the mostly older players, where i should go to not be considered a noob by the new standards im going to assume are in the game now. And what the guilds are like now. Is it worth coming back right now? thanks alot guys.

There are quite a few threads already about this topic. I would just scroll down and take a look at those. They have a lot of great info. But yes it is worth coming back. If you like to play MMORPGs then you will still like EQ.

I myself am just returning back to EQ and I would say yes it is, they still have your account, and you can play free for like 14 days, they have a new pack out for like $20 that has all the expiations, you can do a new account if you lost all your info and forgot, or use it to add the ones you are missing. I have level 70 lock and mage on wow but that game just is not for casters. If you love playing a rouge then wow is great if you want to play other class then yes come back to EQ, The tutorials are great for getting you back in to the swing of things. /gems still works LOL.

Yes it is worth coming back! Leveling is faster now thanks to hotzones. There is a lot of new gear even in older zones. A lot gear like omens group gear etc has bottomed out in price due to the cultural and SoF stuff. There are several augments in hotzones both old and current hotzones. There is the james the watchmaker quest line in pok where you just collect 3 gears and one rod off random mobs in the zone he sends you to. Experience seemed to go by focusing on getting the pieces. You can now buy skinspike potions from players for nice dmg shield dmg. There are haste, mana regen, heal potions for sale in pok. Finding a group till low 50s can be a task, but with all skinspikes, potions and cheap or hotzone quest - drop gear you can easily solo to low 50s. In a couple weeks going to be faster AA xp for those with low AA numbers.

Jump back in the waters fine !

I just came back, what, two months ago?

It's the same old game, but new features make it easier.

Out of combat medding and healing = less downtime, and I think this "saved" the game for me - or fixed it.

One of the reasons I quit a long time ago was that I just grew to hate the long time medding between fights. That's over. The game moves at a better pace now.

Stromm has people and some healthy guild - raids.

If u stick to hotzones you can almost always get a pickup group.

GL!

Oh YES do come back!

I had been gone 3 years. Came back in Sept 2007. I love the "improvements" they have made.

Moving from zone to zone is easier now with the "guild hall" portal system and the "cresent reach" wand that ports and the "translocation potion" to get you back to your bind spot for non gaters.

They have added more bank slots so you have more bags to store your goodies in.

You can get a really nice Charm of Lore with its quests to locate lots of different spots in the zones to up date its stats and the charm has an Aug that has Wanderlust Quests to up its stats. As you are increasing the stats on the charm and the aug you are gaining xp too.

As mentioned there are now Hot Zones that give you bonus xp while you kill in them and they also have Silverwing gear that drop and an aug to go with it that drops in the next higher Hot Zone.

There are now Mission quests you can go on with 3 or more people that earn you different coinage for buying gear and augs from special vendors in that zone.

There are quests for earning faction with vendors that offer nice gear and goodies

They have revamped some of the old haunts like Freeport, I don't even recognize it anymore but the graphics are on par with Wow or EQ2.

As said before you no longer have to "run" back to your corpse after death, you can buy a rez stone from the vendor in the Guild Lobby, take the stone to the "summoner" guy in the same room and he will summon your dead corpse to you, then you find a cleric to rez you and poof you are your old self again!

All said....yes the game is wonderful and interesting and the people of so helpful and friendly you will get lots of help relearning how to play with all the changes.

ENJOY! Seventh Hammer server is a great server with a good mix of hardcore and casual/family type guilds to pick from.

Someone should really start a "New or returning player post" and have it stickied at the top of this forum, that would cut down on the 5 of these per week we see here.

Maybe it need bright RED lettering on the post heading.
But there will still be folks who would miss it.
Maybe Kaolian can set up a block of any thread containing the words coming back, returning player, worth to return. Then there could be a message saying look at the above post.

That's probably exactly what I mean, seeing as how I've put 10 posts on that thread. -- sorry, will put sarcasm tags on my next post.

Sincerity is better than Sarcasm. (Removes tongue from cheek.)

Me and the wife quit playing about July because of having trouble finding groups. It seemed like there were a lot of people playing boxed toons and we spent a lot of evenings LFG and would just run out of spare time before finding a group. We are probably going to reactivate our accounts for the fabled season and are hoping the new expansion has livened up our server. All of our toons are on the Tribunal server so thats what it was like then, we'll just have to see if groups are easier to find.
