EQPLAYERS Character missingFollow

#1 Feb 08 2008 at 7:38 AM Rating: Default
My main character has been missing from EQPLAYERS since October 2007. Since then I've made 20 petitions on this topic, submitted info to EQPLAYERS website forum many times, called SoE, and submitted fraud complaints to 22 countries. So far, zero movement.

My main is 100 percent invisible to me and to anyone else on EQPLAYERS. Having run databases for over 40 years, I know the inclusion of my main in EQPLAYERS shouldn’t take for 5 minutes to fix. This leads me to the conclusion that there is intentional hiding of some characters going on.

I know Magelo is better. Trouble is people do use EQPLAYERS to look up characters and its annoying to have your main missing. This has happened to guild leaders etc. Since EQPLAYERS can be a paid for service,(I don't, would seem rather a foolish waste of money), it could easily be proven that SoE is engaged in fraud by charging for the service. Would love to see a class action suit against SoE. They are complete toads when it comes to customer service and since being nice does not work with them, maybe a few legal kicks would make them a bit more responsive.

Well been there done that, main has been missing for 4 months. 20 petitions, calls to SOE, PMs to all those associated with EQPLAYERS and posts on the EQPLAYERS forum of SoE EQLIVE have gotten me nowhere.

There is currently a 5 page thread in the forums composed of people who have missing characters. This is the latest thread. Many threads have been started and then deleted. SoE is hiding the number of folks who have characters that are missing.

Here's a letter I wrote to the CEO of Sony. Apparently it was read and passed back to SoE:

Sir Howard Stringer
Chairman and CEO
Sony Corporation

Dear Sir,

Players are paying thousands to Sony Online Entertainment, SoE, to see how their EVERQUEST players stack up on EQPLAYERS when in fact the service they are paying for is grossly inaccurate and wrong. This is the equivalent of going to the Royal Ascot 2008 and finding several horses racing missing from the programme and then seeing some of the winning horses fail to show up on the board. Imagine the stir among the crowds at Ascot that this failure of the management would cause! --- The ladies fanning their faces, the men turning red, the dropped jaws of the top riders not seeing their mounts as winners. This stir is throughout the international Everquest community right now.

EQPLAYERS holds the promise of being a “scoreboard” by which players can see how well they advance in the competitive world of EVERQUEST. Since its inception, many players have criticized EQPLAYERS because of its many bugs and inaccuracies. So much so that most veteran players pretty much ignore EQPLAYERS and just stick with Magelo, a separate rating service (www.magelo.com). Since I started monitoring the EQPLAYERS forum, many posts and threads have been removed. I believe this removal of posts from folks who have had problems with EQPLAYERS has been an ongoing and continuing process in order to hide the number of customers who have found fault with EQPLAYERS.

The inaccuracy of EQPLAYERS makes no sense: SoE has proprietary access to the best information available on characters and can extract the information from players who are securely logged on. Database management is well worked out. There is no technical excuse for an inaccurate and lame EQPLAYERS. Others and myself therefore suspect that there must be some folks who are directly involved with EQPLAYERS who are intentionally dragging their feet, perhaps because they are secretly rooting for Magelo.

I have played EVERQUEST since December of 1999 and currently have 4 accounts with 3 level 80 characters each at the top of their class for the Povar server in Alternate Advancement Points. This is to say I have played EVERQUEST a long time and play EVERQUEST a lot. My main character, Saeldaan of Povar, provides an example of the inaccuracy of EQPLAYERS. Since approximately October 3rd of this year, Saeldaan has been totally invisible on EQPLAYERS. Even I can't "see" him: he is not listed on my account and is not a viewable character. As of today my character does not exist. Yet I log him on frequently and participate in group and guild events with this character. I am aware of several top players in my guild and elsewhere whose characters are completely missing from EQPLAYERS. Low-level characters, such as those I created to assist in trade skills are always there. Many feel that the bias in EQPLAYERS is not random. Namely EQPLAYERS personel intentionally have made some players invisible. That is, people working for EVERQUEST are cheating.

Starting on October 12th of this year I have petitioned, sent letters to SoE, posted in Forums, sent personal messages to folks in charge of EQPLAYERS, and called SoE and discussed the problem on the phone, all to no avail. As of today my character does not exist. I used every avenue to address the grievance within EQ’s many contact options. On December 22nd of this year I gave up on addressing the problem within EQ: enough was enough and noted that on my petition.

I request that alert your employees that deal with EQPLAYERS to fix this problem so EQ can get back on track and continue the vision it started so long ago. Sadly it appears to many of us that EVERQUEST is being milked as a cash cow prior to being led off to slaughter. Since December 22nd I have pretty much ceased logging onto EQ. Why play if my main character is invisible? I feel like filing claims for refunds of all unused subscription time closing out my four EQ accounts entirely. This has really soured my on EQ.

I have been missing off of there for over a year, best part is when this service became available I bought the premium version of it ( ya haha I am stoopid at that time I didnt know that it was gonna suck it was new =P) I have tried to petition it several times as well and been ignored or told to go to eqplayer website to petition it not to do it in game. Trying to update yourself in game also adds nothing and does not restore you trust me I have tried.

Apparently SoE now recognizes that EQPLAYERS is so bad that they refund folks who have been so foolish as to pay for advanced features without much discussion. Two years ago I subscribed for one month of service and SoE refunded that one month of subscription, $3 and change (wowzer). So if you have ever paid for EQPLAYERS I'd advise folks to ask for their money back.

My main is still completely missing from EQPLAYERS after 6 months of petitions, calls, postings and letters. I think at this point that the folks running EQPLAYERS are either (1) hopelessly incompetent or (2)intentionally doing what they can to handicap or annoy some players for obscure purposes.

One thing is sure: database management is old hat. If SoE tossed a programmer at the problem they'd have it fixed right in a week. Apparently they think they'll make more from the design of a new LoN card than from fixing a basic problem in EQPLAYERS.

CEO of SoE admits failings of EQPLAYERS and offers refund:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/p...115913?

To the Station Players community in EverQuest:

We recognize that we have had some thorny issues with Station Players and EverQuest over the past few months, some of which have been challenging to track down and fix. It is apparent that some Station Players subscribers have been affected by these issues, some subscribers have been affected to a lesser extent and some may not have been affected at all. Nonetheless, we recognize and understand the frustration expressed by the community. We expect that, within the next few days or so, we will have addressed and fixed most of these issues.

While all services can be expected to have bugs or glitches from time to time, the persistent nature of the EverQuest Station Players issues over the last few months argues for a refund.

Accordingly, over the next few days, SOE will be issuing each EverQuest player a full refund of EverQuest Station Players charges that he or she has paid since February 14, 2007, up to a maximum of 5 months refund per EverQuest Station Players account. We hope that issuing this refund demonstrates our goodwill to the community, and we apologize for the issues that have arisen and persisted.

John Smedley

President, Sony Online Entertainment
