I stopped playing EQ a while ago, and for the past month I've been playing WoW and it's made me realize all the stuff I miss about EQ. It seems like there isn't much to choose from in terms of race and class in WoW compared to EQ. I also really don't like the Horde/Alliance thing, and the abundance of stupid names people give there characters. And for some reason, I don't like the lore of WoW as much as I did with EQ. Oh, and I missed Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves, and Half Elves; I can't stand Night Elves and the way they look! In fact, the only character models I really like on WoW are the Gnomes.
Anyone else quit EQ only to miss it really badly?

I think I might come back sometime, but I'd have to start all over because I let someone else use my account off and on, we changed the password, and I never used a credit card to pay for it. I don't think I'd really mind starting over though. Are they coming out with another compilation pack thing with all the expansions anytime soon?

Sorry for the thread jumping around everywhere, haha.

If you make a new account on Sony's site you can get the all expansion set for $40. You download EQ Trilogy off the website and then when you connect, it downloads the rest. Hope that helps :)

You could ask for your old account back. Give sony the right info on it. Tha is if the other person is not using it. (If they still are you could grab it back anyway, if you were so inclined.)
Read the thread at the top "coming back after being away" for game updates.
Even starting over is not that hard.
Also note the lastest expansion is available on AMAZON.

Thanks for the replies!
I'd really like to get the account back, but I don't think it'd be possible. I never paid with my credit card; I only used game cards. I'm not sure what email address or name the account was registerred to. The only thing I really know is the username and what the password used to be before it got changed. =/
I looked around and I think I might order the Anniversary Edition off of Amazon and start over maybe. I just worry about coming back and no lowbies being around for me to group with, but it shouldn't be too hard to solo.

There are always a small population of low characters on servers.
You will most likely be able to find groups in the hot zones and not have to solo if you dont want to. The easiest way to find a group is to start making one. Just announce in as many channels as you want that you are such a level, want to group in zone a or b and are looking for more to join the fun.

Don't buy the Anniversary Edition, go and buy Secrets of Faydwer boxed expansion which contains EQ and ALL other expansions (and you'll get all the /claim-ed goodies, too).

And no, it won't be too hard to solo. I think you may even find other "newbies" in the Mines of Gloomingdeep or in Crescent Reach. Good luck!

Everyone's been really helpful. I'm still thinking about it. I guess there's no harm in buying Secrets of Faydwer and trying it again. Does anyone know if it comes with 30 free days?
I'm glad someone else is in my place, dissonantcry. I like WoW, but it just doesn't seem to have much depth and seems too easy.

Nice as that would be, I would put it at near impossible. Low levels are going to be barren unless a huge influx of new players happen, since your average veteran returning eq player simply has little to no trouble plowing through those levels in todays game unless they choose to go the slower route. And even a completely inexperienced player can gain a lot of levels before they even have a good grasp on the workings of the game.

I decided to try Escape to Norrath before I went out and bought SoF, so I installed it and I can't seem to get it to work. I start it up, it patches, I click play, and then when I enter in the username and password it says I need a valid everquest subscription. EtN i supposed to be free, so do I need to activate the account for it or something? Anyone have any ideas?
I would post on the EQ forums, but I can't get them to load tonight.

Edit: Oh, and when I start playing again, I'll be up for camping the wall in CB anytime! Maybe even the throne room if I feel daring. =]

I quit a long time ago, and decided to come back a few months ago. In my 3 months since returning I have gotten to a higher level then I did playing for almost a year and a half. I'm proud to say this is still a great game that I love and enjoy. It saddens me a little how a lot of the content has gotten easier then I remember.

Grr. I think I'm just going to have to buy SoF, instead of trying out EtN. I searched the EQ forums and it has a lot of problems. (Which they should probably fix if they want to attract new or returning players.) The problem with mine is it is missing the Consume Key page, and I can't find a new working link to the page anywhere.
>.<
I already ordered SoF, but if anyone has any idea about what I could do about EtN, feel free to say something! =]

Woot! A full CB again - wouldn't that be awesome. Ironically, it was EQ's difficulty that caused so many complains that caused a lot of people to go off to easier games. But easier does not always = better, and I really think it was some of that difficulty that made EQ so great. Yeah, it has gotten a LOT easier (maybe TOO easy...) due in part to games like WoW. I usually choose to go the old school slow route - I find it fun.

What server are/will you be on Fad? I'll look you up. I have a train of alts on various servers, mostly because I am hopelessly addicted to the Luclin newbie armor quests, and also because starting off fresh means no twinking, so I get a good dose of difficulty too. One sad thing about EQ these days is even new players are level 50 in a matter of a few weeks. But like it was posted above, you can usually form groups easier than you can find them, even at low levels.

I'll most likely be on Tunare or Stromm.
Tunare is the server I played on before I quit, but it's probably changed a lot and I've heard that it seems to be one of the lower populated servers.
Hopefully SoF gets here by the end of this week or early next week. =]

I've got 8 characters on Stromm, the oldest one is 23 or so. I have a 15 ranger Lorre I dusted off recently, and an 11 pally Kyress, hmmm...and an enchanter (Kyriell? Lorelleii?) I wanted to level up - trying to do Sol Ro armor quests with the 20-something, need chanty to enchant =) Yeah I'm crazy - but I missed out on all the old quests. When I first got EQ I did not have my own computer - played on a friend's, sporadically.

Stromm was my first test server where I tried out different race/class combos. I haven't made anything on Tunare, but I'm sure there is something I haven't tried yet =)

Welcome back - I hope to run into you in that big world of Norrath!

The game got here on Wednesday, but I have not been able to play because I don't have a credit card, and all the stores I've been to have stopped selling the SOE Game Cards. It's really weird. The only place online i've found them is Bestbuy and Amazon. You'd think SOE would make the cards more available, like Blizzard does, so more people would play their games.
I may just get a Credit Card soon so I don't have to deal with this again, but I think I'm going to order a Game Card from Amazon in the meantime. =]

On Monday I got an email from SoE saying that they say I had activated SoF and had not yet subscribed, so they randomly started up the account for me. =]
I have a level 9 Dark Elf Necro on Stromm right now, and I might make a character on the Combine. The necro's name is Atessa, if anyone wants to look me up. =]
