Yet another returning player postFollow

I must have read hundreds of similar posts, but none of them truly answered what questions I have, so here I am, posting my own. I left EQ back in 2004 for WoW, never to look back. But alas, I compare every game to EQ. Talking about old memories, remembering deadly adventures and whatnot. Now all of a sudden I have these strange urges in my head to return to the land of my "youth". I left a 56 Cleric along with countless alts. I'm trying to catch up with all the expansions (6 i believe) but I'm lost. What all is new? Whats changed? The last real expansion I play was LDoN. If I come back, will I be sorely underequipped? Is the game still populated? (looks as though it is from the forums.) Am I only posting this to hear others tell me it's still worth it to play? lol! Any feedback would be appreciated!

You will be under-geared, but should be able to get by keeping yourself to healing groups. You might not be able to throw as much offense at the mobs as you're used to until you get some upgrades, but you'll get by. Heck, my cleric still has one or two pieces of LDoN steel.

The game will seem populated as long as you take your cleric to the highest two hotzones (currently Halls of Honor available for level 62+ and Nobles Causeway), zones from The Serpents Spine expansion, and the guild lobby (which has replaced PoK as the place to meet and do buffs due to the suspension of buff timers there).

Get a bazaar trader ready. Try to accumulate tradeskill drops while you group and sell them in the bazaar. There is a whole new breed of tradeskill drops that are common to level-appropriate zones across norrath. Look for types of ore, loam, skins, and silk you didn't see when you last played. They are fairly common drops as well. You will have a few K or more before you know it.

Nobles Causeway will be the best experience and groupage for you as a moderately-geared 56 cleric. While there are usually only 2-3 full groups and a few solo'ers in Nobles Causeway, when you ding 62 and head to HoH it will be so crowded you will barely have a mob to kill. In addition to tradeskill items, look for quest items while you're there to sell in the bazaar. Identifying those kind of items is easier now since they are tagged as tradeskill, quest, etc.

It is worth coming back.

Welcome back.

Take your cleric to Plane of Knowledge and buy Ward of the Divine https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=6902 as it greatly improves solo options.

Unless you were raid-geared over your head or full ldon point geared, the quests offered by Scout Madu http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=23055 in Goru'kar Mesa would be a good way to get back into the swing of things and nab some free upgrades to your gear.

Read this thread about hotzones and augments: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1;mid=117748599721209953;num=45;page=1 as those drops and related quests outfit nearly every slot you would want with nice gear.

If you have the time, check out quests by zone for Crescent Reach, Blightfire Moors and Goru'kar Mesa. They put in some great stuff. If you haven't already done so I recommend buying the latest expansion as it will catch up all the other ones you missed for the one price.

The sticky goes into greater detail: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1;mid=117337801626907618;num=95;page=1

Another great way to get yourself some upgrades to your current equipment is through tradeskills. I takes a bit to get them high enough, what with farming the drops, doing the cultural quests to get your books, but in my opinion is it worth it. Group as normal, but watch for those tradeskill drops. Cultural Armor is a great way to go, until find something better on a raid. Jewelcraft will provide several pieces that can suffice till find something better on a raid. As I said though, it does take some time to get to the point to where you can make these items. While you are leveling, there are some good quests in the newer expansions that can net you some good gear, and experience as well. Once you are high enough level, head to The Buried Sea and do the Dagmire Hand Augment quests. LOL, there are 39 of them to complete, I think, but it is a very nice augment, and you will level several times, probably, while doing it. Anyway, thats my take on it. Just something to do to level, other than the ole routine way. Definitely check out the hotzones for groups.

Thanks for all your tips! I installed the game and what expansions I had and logged back in yesterday. Wow, lots of changes! After just walking around and getting myself familiar with Norrath again, I realized I just had to have the new expansions to really see whats going on. So currently I'm downloading everything to get me up to date, then I will set off and see where I left off. Think I will have to roll a new character to really get the feel of things. I'm sure I will get myself and anyone else with me killed if I just take my cleric out and start smiting things!

Im on Bristlebane. Its really the only server I have ever played on. And it looks like I won't be able to play for a reeeeeaaaalllly long time. My downloader has been hovering at 11ish hours eta for 2 hours now. My husband used to play as well, but he hadn't decided if he was going to come back and join me. We are wondering now whether it would be worth it to go buy a hard copy (which he can apply to his account)tonight and use the disks to speed up this patching business.

I would say that it would be best to go out and buy the SoF discs. It would catch you up on all expansions to date. That way you will not be limited in where you are able to go and get XP and/or loot. I recently had to reinstall EQ (HD went boom), and with the SoF discs + a 26.4 dialup, I was back up in about 12 hours. With a broadband connection, that would certainly make it fairly quick.
